Dua

Duas of Angels / Reward for Hajj

1.) IMÂN - “The angels carrying the throne as well as those around them, glorify the praises of their Rabb, believe in Him, and seek forgiveness for those who believe. (They make duâ saying) “O our Rabb! Your mercy and knowledge encompasses everything. So forgive those who repent an follow Your path. And save them from the punishment of the Blazing Fire. O our Rabb, enter then into the gardens of eternity, which You have promised them, as well as the righteous ones from amongst their fathers, their spouses and their progeny. Undoubtedly You are the Mighty, the Wise. And save them from difficulties (evils). You have certainly showered Your mercy on the one whom You have saved from difficulties on that Day (of Judgement). This is indeed the greatest success.” (Mumin verse 7-9) 2.) ZIKRULLÂH - “O you who possess Îmân! Remember Allah Ta'ala in abundance and glorify Him morning and evening. It is He who showers mercy on you, and His angels pray for your forgiveness and supplicate on your behalf, so that He may remove you from a multitude of darkness (disbelief, ignorance and sin) into light (belief, knowledge and good deeds). He is always merciful to the believers.” (Ahzâb verse 41-43) 3.) DUÂ WHEN PROCEEDING FOR SALÂH - Rasûlullâh Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “Whoever emerges from his house and proceeds for salâh, reciting the following duâ, then Allâh Ta'ala turns His attention towards him, and seventy thousand angels seek forgiveness on his behalf.” 4.) FIRST SAFF - Rasûlullâh Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “Verily Allâh Ta'ala sends His special mercy and His angels make duâ on behalf of those who perform salâh in the first saff (row).” (Ibn Mâjah)  5.) JOINING OF SAFFS - Rasûlullâh Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “Verily Allâh Ta'ala sends mercy and the angels make duâ for those people who join the saffs (rows). Whoever closes a gap, Allâh Ta'ala will raise him one rank.” (Ibn Mâjah) 6.) SALÂH WITH JAMÂ’AT - Rasûlullâh Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “When the imâm says ‘Amîn’, then say ‘Amîn’. Whoever’s ‘Amîn’ conforms to the Amîn of the angels, all his past sins are forgiven.” (Bukhâri) When a person recites Sûrah Fâtihah, he asks Allâh Ta'ala for guidance. The angels say ‘Amîn’ which means “O Allâh, accept this duâ.” Muhammad ibn Samâk never missed salâh with Jamâ’at for forty years except when his mother passed away. He says, “Because I know that salâh with jamâ’at is 25 times superior, I repeated a salâh 25 times when I happened to miss my salâh with jamâ’at. I was then told in a dream, “Muhammad! Although you have repeated your salâh 25 times, what about the Âmin that the angels say? (when salâh is performed with jamâ’at)” 7.) SITTING AFTER SALÂH - Rasûlullâh Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “Salâh performed in congregation is twenty-five times more superior to performing salâh in one’s home or in the market-place. When one performs wudû properly, fulfilling all its etiquettes, and then proceeds to the Masjid, intending only salâh, then on every step, Allâh Ta'ala raises his rank by one stage, and forgives one sin, until he reaches the Masjid. When he enters the Masjid, he will receive the reward of salâh as long as he is waiting for the salâh. The angels continuously make the following duâ for him, whilst he sits in the place he performed salâh, as long as he does not break his wudû, “O Allâh, forgive him, O Allâh, shower mercy on him.” (Bukhârî)   8.) IBÂDAT OF LAILATUL QADR - Rasûlullâh Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “During the night of Qadr, Jibraîl u comes with a group of angels and they make duâ of mercy for the one who stands or sits remembering Allah Ta'ala (and is involved in worship).” (Shuabul Imân) 9.) SEHRI - Nabî Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “Indeed Allâh Ta'ala sends His special mercy and the angels seek forgiveness and make duâ for those who partake of sehrî.” (Tabrâni, Ibn Hibbân) 10.) DUÂ FOR BROTHER IN ABSENCE - Rasûlullâh Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “When a man makes duâ for his brother in his absence, the angels say, “Amîn, and may you be granted the same.” (Bazzâr) 11.) SPENDING IN CHARITY - Rasûlullâh Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “Every morning, two angels descend. One of them says, “O Allâh, grant the one who spends a better return.” The other says, “O Allâh, destroy the wealth of he who keeps back.” (Bukhârî) 12.) FEEDING OTHERS - Hadrat Aishâh Radiallahu Anha narrates, “The angels continue to make duâ for you as long as your table-cloth is laid out.” (i.e. continue to feed people.) (Kanzul Ummâl) 13.) QURÂN - Hadrat Sa’d ibn Abî Waqqâs Radiallahu Anhu narrates, “When a person completes the Qurân in the first portion of the night, the angels make duâ for him till the morning, and if he completes the Qurân in the first portion of the day, the angels make duâ for him till the evening.” (Daramî) 14.) SURAH DUKHÂN –Nabi Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “Whoever reads Surah Dukhân at night, then seventy thousand angels seek forgiveness for him till the morning.” (Tirmidhi) 15.) DUÂ MORNING AND EVENING- Rasûlullâh Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “Whoever recites thrice in the morning أَعُوْذُ بِاللهِ السَّمِيْعِ الْعَلِيْمِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيْمِ followed by the last three verse of Surah Hashr, then Allâh Ta'ala will appoint seventy thousand angels who will make duâ for him till the evening. If he passes away on that day, he will pass away as a martyr. Whoever recites this duâ in the evening, will attain the same benefits.” (Tirmidhi) 16.) DURÛD - Hadrat Aamir ibne Rabi’ah narrates from his father that he said, “I heard Rasûlullâh Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam giving a khutbah and he was saying, ‘Whoever sends durûd on me, the angels continue to send salât (make duâ) for him as long as he is engaged in durûd. Therefore, one can read a little or a lot.” (Ahmad, Ibn Mâjah) Hadrat Abdullah ibn Amr Radiallahu Anhu narrates, “The one who sends one durûd on Nabi Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam, Allah Ta'ala bestows seventy mercies on him and the angels make duâ for him seventy times.” (Ahmad) Nabi Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “Whoever sends durûd upon me in a book (i.e. he writes it), the angels continue seeking forgiveness for him as long as my name remains in that book.” (Tabrânî) 17.) SEEKING KNOWLEDGE - Rasûlullâh Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “Whoever traverses a road seeking knowledge, Allâh Ta'ala will make easy for him a path to Jannah. The angels spread their wings out of happiness for a seeker of knowledge. Those in the heavens and those on earth, including the fish in the depths of the ocean seek forgiveness for a learned person. The virtue of a learned person over a worshipper is like the virtue of the full moon over the stars. The Ulamâ are the inheritors of the Ambiyâ. The Ambiyâ did not leave dirhams and dinars (gold and silver coins) as inheritance. Their inheritance is knowledge. Whoever has taken it, has taken great goodness.” (Abû Dawûd) 18.) VISITING THE ILL- Rasûlullâh Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “Whoever visits his sick Muslim brother, then he is walking in the gardens of Jannah until he sits. When he sits, mercy envelopes him. If he goes in the morning, then seventy thousand angels make duâ for him until the evening. If he goes in the evening, then seventy thousand angels make duâ for him until the morning.” (Ibn Mâjah) 19.) SLEEPING WITH WUDHU - Nabî Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “An angel shares the bed of the person who passes the night in a state of purity (i.e. wudû). Whenever he tosses or turns, the angel supplicates, saying, “O Allâh, forgive this servant of yours.” (Ibn Hibbân, Fathul Barî)  20.) SALÂM - Rasûlullâh Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “As-Salâm is one of the names of Allâh Ta'ala which He Ta'ala has placed on the earth.  Thus spread it amongst yourselves, because when a Muslim person passes a group of people and makes salâm to them to which they reply, then he has one rank of virtue over them due to reminding them of salâm.  If they do not reply, then those who are better than these people (viz. the angels) reply to him.” (Targhîb) Note: In salâm, one is making duâ for the protection of the other.       HAJ WITHOUT A VISA! Mufti Mohammed H Abasoomer  Since Haj is among the most virtuous deeds in Islam, and not everyone can afford it (especially on a continuous basis) Allah Ta'ala has attached the reward of optional Haj to certain other deeds for the benefit of all. Now that the Hujjaj have departed, those who have been left behind can take consolation from the following narrations which promise of various other deeds yielding Haj rewards: 1. Wudhu at home before proceeding for Salaah with Jamaat. Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: “One who purifies himself (i.e, makes wudhu) and leaves his home to attend the fardh salaah in congregation receives the reward of a Haji in the state of Ihram. And if he leaves for the salaatu-Dhuhaa (Chaast) he gets the reward of ‘Umrah. (Sunan Abi Dawud)  2. Salatul Ishraaq. Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: “Whoever offers his Fajr salaah in congregation, and then remains seated making the dhikr (remembrance) of Allah Ta’ala until (approximately 15 mins after) sunrise after which he offers two rak’aats of salaah (Ishraaq), will receive the reward of one complete Haj and one complete ‘Umrah” (Sunan Tirmidhi). Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam repeated the words: “complete” thrice. 3. Going to the Masjid to acquire or impart Knowledge. Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: “Whoever goes to the Masjid for the purpose of learning or teaching Knowledge, receives the reward of a Haji whose Haj was perfect. (Tabarani) 4. Umrah in Ramadhan. Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam passed by Ummu Sinan while on his way to haj. “Why didn’t you accompany me for Haj?” he enquired. She said: “We only have two camels, one my husband has used to be with you in Haj, and the other is needed for transporting water.” Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: “Umrah in Ramadhan equals the reward of Haj with me”. (Sahih Muslim) 5. To recite “Subhaanallah” 100 times in the morning and evening. Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: “He who recites Subhaanallah 100 times in the morning and another 100 times in the evening is like one who performed Haj 100 times!” (Sunan Tirmidhi)  6. Serving one’s Parents: A man came to Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam and said: “I wish to participate in Jihaad, but I cannot afford it” Rasulullah r enquired if any of his parents were alive, to which he said: “Yes! My mother is alive” Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: “Show Allah how you serve her. If you do so (duly) you will be like a: Haaji, a Mu’tamir (one doing ‘Umrah) and a Mujaahid (One striving in Allah’s way).” (Abu Ya’la) Hafidh Ibn Rajab Hambali Rahmatullah Alaih has quoted other deeds that yield the reward of Haj from various Predecessors (i.e, not necessarily from the hadith). All of the following have been extracted from his priceless work: Lataaiful Ma’aarif, pgs.357-359. 7. Attending the Jumu’ah Salaah. Sa’eed ibnul Musayyab Radiallahu Anhu said: “Attending the Jumu’ah Salâh is better according to me than a nafl (voluntary) Haj.”  8. Attending the Eid Salaah. Some of the Sahabah Radiallahu Anhuma have said: “Attending the Eidul Fitr Salaah equals the reward of ‘Umrah, and the Eidul Adha Salaah equals that of Haj.” 9. Esha Salaah in Congregation. A reliable Tabi’e, Uqbah ibn ‘Abdil Ghaafir Rahmatullah Alaih said: “Offering the Esha salaah in congregation equals the reward of Haj, and the Fajr in congregation equals ‘Umrah” 10. Fulfilling the need of a fellow Muslim. Imam Hasan Al-Basri Rahmatullah Alaih said: “Your proceeding to fulfil the need of a fellow muslim is better for you than one Haj after another!” (Also quoted By Zabeedi in Sharhul Ihyaa, vol.6 pg.292) 11. The fulfilment of all obligations. After citing the above, Hafidh Ibn Rajab Rahmatullah Alaih writes: “The fulfilling of all obligatory deeds is considered better than Nafl (voluntary) Haj and ‘Umrah. This is due to (the Hadith in Sahih Bukhari which states that) the best way of attaining nearness to Allah Ta’ala is via the obligatory acts. However many people find it easy to carry out nafl Haj and ‘Umrah, but feel it difficult to fulfil the other responsibilities (Wajib acts) like repayment of debts and other such duties. 12. Abstinence from the haraam (forbidden) acts are also more virtuous than Nafl Haj etc. Some of the Pious predecessors said: “To abstain from an iota of wrong is better than five hundred (Nafl) Haj”. Fudhail ibn ‘Iyadh þ –the great sage of his age- said: “There is no Haj or Jihad that is more important than protecting one’s tongue” i.e, against sin. 13. Any act of Good during the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah. Hafidh Ibn Rajab Rahmatullah Alaih has rightly pointed out: “If the Hadith has promised that any act of good done in these 10 days supersedes even the reward of Jihad, which is considered better than optional Haj too, that means all good done in these days will also supersede the reward of optional Haj.” (Pg.390) The following is an addition to what Hafidh Ibn Rajab Rahmatullah Alaih has cited: 14. Spending on a student of Islamic Knowledge. Once a father came to Imam Muhammad ibn Sahnun Rahmatullah Alaih and said: “I will earn by myself and I will not distract my son from his studies. Imam Ibn Sahnun replied: “Do you know that your reward for doing so will be greater than that of (nafl) Haj, and Jihad!” (Ma’alim Irshadiyyah of Shaykh Muhammad ‘Awwamah, pg.35)  Note: 1. The promises of “gaining the same reward as Haj” that are mentioned above, are restricted to the reward only. It does not mean that one upon whom Haj is obligatory can merely suffice on these deeds. (Sharh-Nawawi ‘ala Muslim & Fathul Mulhim) 2. Imam Tirmidhi Rahmatullah Alaih has quoted Imaam Is-haq Ibn Rahuyah Rahmatullah Alaih  as saying that this reward should be understood in the light of the Hadith that explains surah ikhlaas to be equal to one third of the Qur’aan. (Sunan Tirmidhi) i.e, one who recites it will receive the reward of reciting one third, but since he hasn’t physically done so the reward will not be multiplied. (Sharh Nawawi) The reward for physically doing an act is multiplied ten times and more in accordance to the sincerity, and sacrifice that accompanies it. Mufti Mahmud Hasan Gangohi Sahib þ has also highlighted this in his Malfuzat. Furthermore, by memorizing/reciting surah ikhlas thrice, one does not become a Hafidh of the entire Quran..! 3. The purpose here is not to discourage one from the actual Haj. Like they say: “There’s nothing like the real thing..” Mufti Mahmud Hasan Gangohi Rahmatullah Alaih has highlighted this in his Malfuzat.  Allah Ta’ala knows best, and may He grant us all the tawfeeq (ability) to practice on the above, as well as afford us the opportunity to perform the real Haj repeatedly. A Priceless Treasure Hidden Right Under Our Noses

LAA HAWLA WALAA QUWWATA ILLAA BILLAH Its meaning in the words of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud Radiallahu Anhu narrated that, once, while in the company of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, he uttered the words ‘Laa Hawla walaa Quwwata Illa Billah’. Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam enquired, “Do you know what is the meaning and explanation (tafseer) of these words?” He replied, “Allah and His Rasul know best.” Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam explained, لا حول عن معصية الله إلا بعصمة الله – “there is no ability (in anyone) to abstain from disobeying  Allah and sinning, except by the protection of Allah.  ولا قوة على طاعة الله إلا بعون الله - and there is no strength (in anyone) to obey Allah, except with the help of Allah.”(Musnadul Bazzaar, as quoted in Maj’mauz Zawaaid)   Moulana Abdul Ghani Phulpoori Rahmatullah Alaih has explained that although this statement is a jumlah-khabriyyah (a statement informing us of a certain matter), contained in these words is a jumlah-inshaaiyyah (in the form of a dua). We are therefore actually begging Allah, ‘O Allah, I ask You to grant me the ability to abstain from disobeying You and sinning by protecting me, and to grant me the strength to obey You by helping me’. (Condensed from Ma’rifate Ilaahiyyah)   Why was the request to be protected from sins brought first, followed by the request to become obedient? Every sin results in the anger and wrath of Allah Ta’ala, whereas the ability to do good is only by the mercy and kindness of Allah Ta’ala (which cannot be attained if Allah Ta’ala is displeased). The causes for the wrath of Allah will have to be removed before His mercy can be acquired. (دفع غضبه مقدم على جلب رحمته)  (Condensed from Ma’rifate Ilaahiyyah)    Virtues of these words: 1) It is a treasure from the treasures of Jannah, (Sahihul Bukhari, Sahih Muslim) from beneath the Arsh (throne) of Allah (Mustadrak of Haakim), which is, in reality, the roof of Jannah. Why has it been called a treasure of Jannah? It has been called a treasure of Jannah for one of the following reasons: a) It is similar to a treasure, as it is extremely valuable and will acquire for one many benefits- especially in Jannah, but was unknown to the people, till Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam presented it to the ummah. b) It will change into the form of a treasure in Jannah and will belong to the reciter. c) It will accumulate for a person a treasure of wealth and luxuries in Jannah. d) It will acquire a treasure of great rewards in Jannah for its reciter. e) In these words, one has negated any ability and strength stemming from his own being and has attributed all such ability and strength to Allah Ta’ala’s  protection and help, and is thereby seeking to attain this strength and ability from Allah Himself. He has therefore attached himself to those everlasting mercies of Allah Ta’ala which will protect him from sin and help him to obey Allah Ta’ala. Those mercies have here been called a treasure from the treasures of Jannah. These mercies of Allah will result in good actions (Al-Baaqiyaatus Saalihaat) which never come to an end, the rewards and fruits of which will remain with one in Jannah. (The first four reasons are mentioned in Mirqaatul Mafaateeh of Mulla Ali Qari and quoted in Kashkole Ma’rifat, and the last was mentioned by Moulana Abdul Ghani Phulpoori, as in Ma’rifate Ilaahiyyah)   2) It is a cure from 99 diseases, the lightest one being hamm (such grief, worry and depression which can melt a man-Mirqaat). (Al-Mu’jamul Awsat of Tabraani) 3) Ibrahim Alaihis Salaam told Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam on the night of Mi’raaj to tell the Ummah that they should increase their trees and plants in Jannah by reciting these words. (Musnad Ahmad, Sahih Ibn Hibbaan) 4) Allah Ta’ala replies to this statement by announcing (to the angels-Fathul Baari),     أسلم عبدي واستسلم -  My servant has handed over (all the matters and affairs of both the worlds to Me in totality) and has submitted himself (to Me, worshipping Me sincerely). (Mirqaat, commenting on a Hadith in Mishkat, Mustadrak of Haakim)   This dua can also be recited thus: " لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيْم" LAA HAWLA WALAA QUWWATA ILLAA BILLAHIL ALIYYIL AZEEM.  (This addition is found in a narration of Musnad Bazzaar and Al-Mu’jamus Sagheer, a narration of Al-Mu’jamul Awsat and a narration of Abdur Razzaaq in his Musannaf)    Since these additional words are also proven, it would be recommended to recite it as well. They mean ‘The Most Lofty, The Greatest’. By repeating these names of Allah Ta’ala, one realizes the lofty position and grandeur of Allah, and realizes how low (دنيّ) and contemptible-despicable (حقير) he is. Once one realizes this, he has acquired abdiyat (true servitude to Allah) and has humbled himself before Allah. After realizing one’s own low and contemptible nature which is fit to do no good, one is here asking Allah’s help through these wonderful names of His to be protected from sin and to be blessed with strength to carry out good actions. (Condensed from Ma’rifate Ilaahiyyah pg.458)   Benefits of reciting these words:   A means of acquiring the Fadhl of Allah - Shaykh Abul Hasan Shaazli Rahmatullah Alaih had quoted his Mashaayikh who had explained: “There are no words as beneficial and helpful as these words in submitting to Allah and in entering the path of His fadhl (favours and grants).” (Mazaahire Haqq, as quoted in Kashkole Ma’rifat) A remedy for pride - Moulana Abdul Ghani Phulpoori Rahmatullah Alaih had said, “For guidance (hidaayah) and self-reformation (islaah), reciting these words in abundance is extremely beneficial and has an amazing effect. If one reads it at least 500 times daily, Allah will grant him the courage to abstain from sin and the strength to carry out good actions. If this too is not possible, then at least recite it 70 times. If due to your ibaadah, you become vain and self-conceited, recite these words while pondering over its meaning, by the blessings of which this Shaytaani trick of pride and self-conceit will be uprooted.” (Ma’rifate Ilahiyyah pg.457-461) A means of giving up sins and reforming oneself - Moulana Shah Hakeem Muhammad Akhtar Rahmatullah Alaih had said, “To become pious and give up sins, recite this seven times after every salaah. Inshaa Allah (By the will of Allah), very soon, one’s sins will begin falling away....When Allah regularly informs the angels “My servant has submitted to My obedience” (in reply to this kalimah), Allah will never give the angels the chance to object to His declaration by asking why the person is still committing sin. Allah will therefore honour his declaration reforming and correcting that particular servant of His. For this reason, many Masaayikh (spiritual guides) would prescribe only the recital of this kalimah for their mureedeen (disciples), by which they would acquire connection with Allah.” (Condensed from Inaayaate Rabbani pg.11-12)   A solution to life-threatening problems, and an exit from all sorts of difficulties - Maalik Ashja’ee Radiallahu Anhu came to Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and said to him, “Auf’s son (who happened to be the grandson of Maalik) has been captured and taken as a captive. (The parents are both very worried. What can they do?)” Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam asked Maalik to send the following message to Auf; ‘Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam commands you to recite The parents obeyed this command and began reciting it in abundance. Their son, who had been tied up in leather ropes suddenly saw the ropes falling off, which allowed him to escape. While leaving, he noticed a camel belonging to his captors nearby, upon which he jumped and began to ride away. Passing by their flock of sheep or goats, he called out to the animals to move with him. The animals obeyed and all followed him. He surprised his parents when he reached the door and called out for them, as they never expected him to ever return. His father later came to Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam to inform him of what had happened, at which the following verse of the Quran was revealed, “ومن يتق الله يجعل له مخرجا الآية”. (Ibn Abi Haatim has quoted this from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, as in At-Targeeb wat Tarheeb. It has also been narrated from Ibn Abbaas Radiallahu Anhu in a shorter version, narrated by Ibn Mardwayh, as in Ad-Durrul Manthoor)

A Dua of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam

We recite the Dua taught to us by Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam, O Allah! Make me insignificant in my sight and big in the sight of people This outwardly seems to be pride that one wants to be big in the sight of people.  Allama Aaloosi Rahmatullah-e-Alayh has written, one of the Tafseer of Hasana fid Dunya is Thana-e-Khalq (people should praise you).  Regarding this Dua of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam, our Sheikh Rahmatullah-e-Alayh has beautifully explained that first we make Dua that we must be small in our sight, showing oneself as useless. We have been taught that we should address ourselves daily saying, “O Abdul Hamid (take one’s own name), currently you are the worst amongst all the believers, and as far as the future is concerned you are worse than the Kuffar as well.”  The antibiotic is given first that you are insignificant. I usually say that we are made to wear a Topi so that the head is kept small, and does not become big headed figuratively. If one becomes more pious then one should wear an Amaamah above the Topi so that there is no possibility of the head increasing. If a person remains insignificant, then no harm can reach a person even though people praise a person as the antibiotic has been given already. The people are praising me but they don’t know what a terrible person I am, they having good thoughts of me. This is a Dua for me. Allah Jalla Jala Laho  has made it such that the wife is above the man and she controls him. The entire world praises a person which makes one think that he is great but if he goes home for a few minutes he will know of his reality. The wife will thoroughly cleanse the husband of his thoughts of piety and greatness. The children also rectify their father but they will still consider the father, the Sheikh will also consider his Mureed but the wife will rectify the husband without any consideration. Then the doubt is created that people will think that one wants to be great as he is making Dua that he must be big in the sight of people. You regard yourself as small and do not desire it, thus it will not harm you. The actions of others do not harm a person, it is one’s actions that harm him. If you really think that you are great after hearing the praises of people then this will harm you. The desire to be big is for the sake of Deen. This does not apply to Deen but for all systems to function correctly that the senior must be respected. If the wife and children do not respect the father in the house, then such a house will be in chaos. If they respect the father, there will be system in that house. If students do not respect the Ustaad in the classroom, how will the students learn? It is necessary for the students to respect the Ustaad, in fact it is the duty of the Ustaad to instil respect within his students. This is commonly not done (by the parents) because we do not understand the subject and it seems as though we desiring respect. Due to not possessing respect the children do not know the value of their parents. The Ustaad does explain to his students the parent feels that another person should explain to the children. If a person does not respect the Sheikh then he will not benefit at all. Alhamdulillah, here (in the Khanqah) the respect of the Sheikh is discussed from time to time so that the Mureed understands the position of the Sheikh and benefits. If the Sheikh makes Dua, “O Allah, let the Mureeds understand and realise my position so that they may benefit, there is no harm.” It should not be done for his own sake. In many countries of the world as well as South Africa we have to drive on the left hand side of the road. By driving on the left hand side of the road one is driving on the right side, and if drives on the right side he is actually driving on the wrong side of the road. What will be the consequence of driving on the right side of the road? If there are three solid lines on a blind rise and one overtakes what will the consequence be? If a person stops when the traffic light is green and advances when it is red. If the laws on the road are respected there will be control on the road. You will sometimes find that a young person, or a drunk person, or one that is mentally disturbed, what don’t they do on the road? If respecting the rules of the road ensure order on the road, then respect of people will result in maintaining law and order as well.  Many people do not understand this and do not nurture their children accordingly. The parents, Ustaad, Sheikh should reprimand their juniors if the necessary respect is not found. This is acquired from the Mashaaikh, generally this cannot be acquired by the Ustaads or even the Kitaabs. May Allah Jalla Jala Laho reward our Sheikh Rahmatullah-e-Alayh as he had openly discussed these matters with us as a result we had benefitted tremendously.

The Days of Dhul Hijjah

In the Quraan-e-Kareem Allah Ta'ala takes qasm (an oath) of some of His creations. These oaths are taken to point out the great importance of these things. Amongst the things Allah Ta'ala takes an oath of is the time of Fajr, وَالْفَجْرِ By the oath of dawn Allah Ta'ala has kept tremendous blessings and goodness in the time of Fajr. These blessings apply to our Deen, Dunya and Aakhirah. The time between Subh Saadiq (dawn) and sunrise contribute tremendously to the progress of wealth and health of a person. One should therefore be punctual with his Fajr Salaah, especially during these ten days of Dhul Hijjah. The recitation of the Quraan Sharif at the time of Fajr also holds extra value as it is witnessed by the angels. Verily the Quraan recited at Fajr is witnessed by the angels Similarly the Duas and Zikrullah of the time of Fajr are extremely valuable. Thereafter Allah Ta'ala takes an oath of the ten nights. The ten days and nights of Dhul Hijjah وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ And by the ten nights These ten nights refer to the ten nights of Dhul Hijjah. Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said, No actions are more virtuous during the days (of the year) than the good deeds carried out in the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah. The Sahaaba enquired, “O messenger of Allah! Not even jihaad in the path of Allah?”  Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam replied, “Neither is jihaad more virtuous (than the good deeds carried out during these ten days) except a man leaves home physically and with his wealth then does not return with anything (i.e. his is martyred in the path of Allah).  What Ibaadah should one carry out during these ten days? During these ten days one should recite the fourth kalimah excessively which is as follows, لاَ إلٰهَ إلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيْكَ لَهُ ، لَهُ اْلمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ يُحْيِيْ وَيُمِيْتُ بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُ وَهُوَ عَلىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ There is no diety except Allah alone, He has no partner, to Him belongs kingdom and to Him belongs all praises, He gives life and causes death, all goodness is in his hands and he has power over everything. This was the Waazifa of all the ambiyaa and the leaders of all ambiyaa Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam. We had learnt this Kalimah in Madrasah but without the spirit and reality of it. Tasawwuf is to return to these basics once again and make them part of our life. Another great Ibaadat for these days is the recitation of the third kalimah which is, سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ وَلَا إلٰهَ إلَّا اللهُ وَاللهُ أَكْبَرُ وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوّةَ إلاَّ بِاللهِ الْعَلِىِّ اْلعَظِيْمِ When Nabie Moosa Alaihis Salaam asked Allah Ta'ala for a Waazifa that would be specially prescribed for him, he was given the Kalimah-e-Tauheed which is لا إله إلا الله There is no diety except Allah However these Kalimah will only be weighty on the scale of deeds if they are recited with Ikhlaas and concentration. Allah Ta'ala does not look at numbers but rather at the quality of the actions. Not quantity but quality is required in Aamaal Allah Ta'ala mentions, الَّذِي خَلَقَ الْمَوْتَ وَالْحَيَاةَ لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ أَيُّكُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا He has created death and life to test which of you carry out the best of acts In this verse Allah Ta’ala did not say that He has created life and death to test which of you carry out the most amount of actions, thus the quality is of utmost importance. Imaam Shafi R.A used to say that a person should have some Nafil actions or Mustahab actions which no person is aware of except the one carrying it out and Allah Ta'ala, meaning that it should be done with total Ikhlaas and sincerity. These internal qualities are of importance in the court of Allah c. Therefore the fourth Kalimah should also be recited with Ikhlaas during these days. When a person recites with the reality then the words have an effect. To explain this point Hadrat Maulana Umar Saheb Palanpuri r used to say that a person had heard of the devastating effects of a hydrogen bomb. He starts uttering the words “hydrogen bomb” repeatedly but it has no effect whatsoever. The words cannot even kill a fly. The hydrogen bomb will have to be used using the correct procedures then it will produce the required results. Similarly, if the various Wazaaif are recited correctly it will have an effect as mentioned in Ahadith. Wazaaif Many people go onto either extremes in Wazaaif. Some people don’t recite their Wazaaif which is the one extreme whilst others only recite their Wazaaif but there is no concern of the Faraaidh. There are many that are merely concerned of Karaamat (super natural acts carried out by the pious) such as flying in the air and walking on water. We should not be concerned and worried of such Karaamaat and acquiring powerful Taweez etc. Hadrat Maulana Shah Hakim Muhammad Akhtar Saheb R.A. used to say that my Tasawwuf is one hundred percent according to the teachings of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam. We should simply follow these teachings of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam. Rewards of fasting during the ten days of Dhul Hijjah عن أبى هريرة ، قال : قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم " ما من أيام الدينا أيام ، أحب إلى الله سبحانه أن يتعبد له فيها ، من أيام العشر . وإن صيام يوم فيها ليعدل صيام سنة ، وليلة فيها بليلة القدر " Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said, “the fast of every day during these (first ten days of Dhul Hijjah) is equivalent to fasting for a year and every night spent in Ibaadah is equivalent to spending Lailatul Qadr in Ibaadah. Hadrat Thanwi R.A says that we should at least try and perform Esha and Fajr Salaah with Jamaat, and thereafter try and do a little extra Ibaadat. Try and perform two Rakaats of extra Nafil Salaah, recite a few pages extra of Quraan Sharif etc. One should try to perform Salaatut Tasbeeh, Ishraaq, Awaabeen etc. One will wake up for Sehri so one should perform a min of two rakaats of Tahajjud Salaah. Removing hair and nails (حديث أم سلمة أن النبي (ص) ، قال : (إذا دخل العشر ، وأراد أحدكم أن يضحي فلا يأخذ من شعره ولا من أظفاره شيئا حتى يضحي) . رواه مسلم Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said, When the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah enter and any one of you intend doing Qurbani then he should not remove his hair nor should clip his nails until he slaughters his Qurbani animal.  This is an act that is Mustahab (preferable). What is the wisdom behind this? During this time of the year the Hujjaj (those intend performing Haj) have gathered in the holy land of Makkah Mukarrama. One of the requirements of performing Haj is that a person has to adorn the Ihraam. A person has to adhere to various rules whilst in Ihraam such as not being able to clip the nails, trim the hair, applying itr, wearing sewn clothing, etc. We were unable to undertake this journey of Haj so we are asked to resemble the Haji by not trimming our hair and clipping our nails. By doing so we will also attain the mercy of Allah Ta'ala that descends upon the Hujjaj even though we are at home. Imitating also holds great value in the court of Allah Ta'ala. Khawaja Azizul Hassan Saheb Mazjoob R.A used to say, تیری محبوب کی یا رب شباہت لیکر آیا ہوں حقیقت اسکو تو کردے میں صورت لیکر آیا ہوں O Allah, I have come with the outward appearance of your beloved You make it a reality, I have merely come with the outward form Although we were unable to go for Haj, our hearts should be connected to Makkah Sharif and Madinah Sharif. A person that is not well cannot go personally to his shop due to health reasons. However, he will ensure that he calls and enquires if everything is in order and running well. He is physically not present but his heart is connected to the shop. We should also be connected to the holy lands. Takbeeraat-e-Tashreeq  From the Fajr of the ninth of Dhul Hijjah till the Asr Salaah of the 13th of Dhul Hijjah we should recite the Takbeerat-e-Tashreeq after every Salaah in an audible tone. It should be recited softly. On the 9th of Dhul Hijjah the Hajis go to Arafaat and they recite the Talbya, so we resemble them by reciting the Takbeeraat-e-Tashreeq. (Women should also recite it at home after every salaah but softly). Obedience to the command of Allah A haji is commanded to perform his Maghrib Salaah when he reaches Muzdalifa on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah even though it is Esha time. A person may be such that he was punctual with his Salaah with Takbeer-e-Ula throughout his life yet he performs Maghrib Salaah in Esha time. We learn that we will obey the command of Allah Ta'ala at all times even though it may contradict our logic and understanding. Also, our condition should not be such that we obey the commands of Allah Ta'ala when we in Makkah and Madinah yet we follow our desires the moment we return. Qurbani Qurbani refers to that action by which a person gains the closeness of Allah Ta'ala.  A person that performs Taraweeh Salaah in the months of Ramdaan performs 40 Sajda by which a person gains the closeness of Allah Ta'ala. Similarly a person gains closeness by performing Qurbani. A person should therefore open his heart and make Qurbani as Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi wasallam has mentioned in the Hadith, عن عائشة أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال ما عمل آدمي من عمل يوم النحر أحب إلى الله من إهراق الدم إنها لتأتي يوم القيامة بقرونها وأشعارها وأظلافها وأن الدم ليقع من الله بمكان قبل أن يقع من الأرض فطيبوا بها نفسا No person carries out any action on the day of Qurbani that is more beloved to Allah Ta'ala than the flowing of blood. Verily the Qurbaani animal will come on the day of Qiyaamah with its horns, hair and hooves, and certainly the blood of the Qurbani animal is accepted by Allah Ta'ala before it reaches the ground therefore do the qurbani happily. May Allah Ta'ala grant us the taufeeq of spending these days correctly and acting upon these advices. Ameen!

Duas for the Host after Meals

Our Sheikh Daamat Barakaatuhum says, Do not eat for free, after eating we should pay for the meals. In fact it is mentioned in the Hadith that Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam, together with some Sahaabah R.A. had meals by one Sahabi R.A.. Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “Pay for the meals.” They asked, what is the pay? Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “Give him Duas”. The pay is Duas, and these Duas are more valuable than all the treasures and money of the world! These are the duas of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam. There are three wonderful Duas of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam, May the fasting person make Iftaari by you (i.e. Allah Ta'ala will send the fasting person to make Iftaari at your place), Iftaari is mentioned in this Dua and not supper. Iftaari (opening the Roza) is done with a gulp of water. If one gives a sip of water to a fasting person, he will get the reward of fasting the entire day without him keeping the Roza; on account of giving a sip of water for Iftaari.  WHAT A BARGAIN? Secondly, May Allah Ta'ala send the Abraar to eat at your place. The Abraar are those that are exceptionally pious. Those who do not even harm an ant and cannot tolerate evil’ Allah Ta'ala will send the exceptionally pious to have meals at your place. The wisdom behind this, is that the effect of food remains in the body for 40 days, so the reward of the Ibaadaat carried out by the Abraar for a period of forty days, will be deposited in your account as well, as you supplied them with the petrol to make their Ibaadat! The Abraar will keep roza whilst you eat, and you accumulate the reward of fasting in your account, they perform Tahajjud Salaah whilst you enjoying your sleep yet you will accumulate the reward of Tahajjud in your account. WHAT A BARGAIN! Invest in a single meal and receive top rentals, the reward of the Ibaadaat of the Abraar for 40 days, with no deductions in their Ibaadat, in fact with additions. Thirdly, Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam says that the Malaaikah are making dua for you, and for all those that have a share in the meal. If we receive the Dua of our parents, Ustadh, Sheikh we are pleased, and rightly so, so what to say of the Duas of the sinless angels? The word Malaaikah has been mentioned in the plural, Allah Ta'ala alone knows how many Malaaikah there are. O Allah feed the one that has fed me and give him to drink who has given me to drink Mashallah, what a wonderful meal, so delicious and presented in such a wonderful way with so much love; in return the host receives the Dua of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam, that is, May Allah feed you (and all those who have a share in this food). Allahu Akbar, who can compare with the Dawat of Allah Ta'ala? Our Sheikh Daamat Barakaatuhum says the best drink in the world is ZamZam. This dua translates practically into that may Allah Ta'ala take you and your family and all those who have a share in this food for Haj and Umrah time and again, and may you drink the waters of Zam Zam from the source! O Allah, Grant them Barkah in their sustenance, forgive them and have mercy on them. Everyone loves Barakah in their sustenance; everyone you see requests you to make Dua for Barkah, here it is granted! We all make mistakes thus the Dua of forgiveness is also given. And finally, O Allah, have mercy on them, what is mercy? Hadrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi R.A. has given a wonderful explanation of Rahmat, “Taufeeq-e-Taa’at” (i.e. to be obedient to Allah Ta'ala). When Allah Ta'ala is happy, then He will grant you “Faraaghi-e-Maee’shat” (Prosperity in abundance). By this Dua one’s Dunya (worldly needs) and Deeni requirements have been taken care of. In regards to the hereafter, “Bilaa Hisaab Maghfirat”  (forgiveness from Allah Ta'ala without any reckoning), and finally “Dukhule Jannat”, (entrance into Jannat.) Allama Aalusi R.A. in Ruhul Ma’aani makes the Tafseer of Rahmat as: تَفضل علينا بفنون الآلآء مع استحقاقنا بافانين العقاب i.e. O Allah! bless us with all types of favours; inspite of us being liable of all types of punishments All this just for feeding the guest! But sadly, because we are not conscious of our Deen, we do not realise its value and nor do we give these Duas to the host. We eat and do not pay!

Daily Wazaaif

Lecture delivered by Hadrat Maulana Abdul Hamid Saheb Daamat BarakaatuhumDUA FOR WORRIES AND DEPRESSIONA person that recites the following Dua seven times morning and evening, Allah Ta'ala will protect him from all worries and depression. It is the worries of the world and hereafter that will melt a person.According to W.H.O. most people living in first world countries are suffering from depression. First world countries experience the highest rate of suicides. Hadrat Shah Hakim Muhammad Akhtar Saheb Daamat Baraakatuhum says, “If Switzerland could manufacture a watch that is water proof, what is it difficult for Allah Ta'ala to create a heart that is worry proof?”ATTAINING DUAS OF THE ANGELS AND DEATH OF A MARTYREvery morning and evening, one should recite the last three verses of Surah Hashr (28th Para) after reciting Ta’awwuz. Allah Ta'ala appoints 70 000 angels to make Dua (for the reciter of the above Dua) and if one passes away on that day, he will pass away as a martyr. If a person receives the Dua of some pious person or one’s parents, how happy wont he be? By reciting the above Dua, a person gets the Dua of the angels which is full of blessings. Hadrat Maulana Muhammad Umar Saheb Palanpuri R.A mentioned on the occasion of a certain Ijtima, “I do not start my day’s work until I engage 70 000 angels on their duty. Protection from all evilWhoever will recite Surah Ikhlaas, Surah Falaq and Surah Naas thrice morning and evening commencing with Tasmiah (Bismillah) each time, Allah Ta'ala will suffice such a person. What is meant by Allah will suffice him? The commentators of Hadith have written,تكفيك من كل شئ (اى من كل وردIt will suffice one from all Wazaaif. If a person cannot recite all his Wazaa’if for the day due to his involvement in certain activities such as travelling etc., then this Wazifa will suffice on behalf of all other Wazaaif. For example, a person is sometimes rushing in the morning to work and cannot have a complete breakfast; he will suffice on a banana. Similarly, by reciting the above Wazifa it will suffice a person, if he does not have sufficient time to recite all his daily Wazaaif. However, this should not be a daily practice. One should ensure that all the prescribed Wazaaif are completed.تكفيك من كل شئ (اى من كل شرIt will suffice one from all evil.Nowadays, people complain of Jadu, health problems, robbery, hijackings, crime, etc. However the biggest enemy is Nafs and Shaytaan. This is, so to say, an insurance policy that we have taken out, which is 100% Halaal. By reciting the above, no harm will affect the reciter.Dua for protection of one’s Deen, Dunya and familyA person came to Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam and complained of weakness in regards to his Deen and health. He also complained of family and financial problems. Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam caught his hand and advised him to recite the following Dua thrice daily,بسم الله على دينى ونفسى وولدى واهلى ومالىDua for protection from prideOn one occasion Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam mentioned that pride enters a person stealthier and more secretly than the movement of a black ant on a black rock on a pitch black night. When pride enters a person, then his deeds will be destroyed. Hadrat Abu Bakr Radiallahu Anhu said, in that case we will all be destroyed, O messenger of Allah. Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam replied that a person that recites the following Dua will be protected from all forms of pride, whether it is little or a lot, minor or major, outward or inward. The dua is as follows,اللهم انى اعوذ بك ان اشرك بك شيئا وانا اعلم استغفرك لما اعلمThose that have devoted their lives for the effort of Deen should recite the above Dua without default. Our efforts of Deen should not be like a person that works on his computer for six months and instead of saving his work, he errs and presses the delete button and everything is lost. It shouldn’t be such that the Deeni efforts we carried out throughout our life is deleted, and we have zero in our book of deeds.   Protection from blindness, insanity, paralysis and leprosy.Whoever recites the following Dua will be protected from blindness, insanity, paralysis and leprosy.سبخان الله العظيم وبحمده لا حول ولا قوة الا باللهAn all-encompassing DuaA Sahaabi came to Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam and complained of weakness of memory. Who can make Dua similar to the Dua of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam? Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam made Dua on the plains of Arafaat, Mina, Muzdallifa, at various instances in the thirteen years of Makkah and ten years of Madinah. Are we able to make these Dua’s? Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam taught this Sahaabi a Dua that is all encompassing whereby he will get all the Duas of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam if recited.اللهم انى اسئلك من خير ما سئلك منه نبيك محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم واعوذ بك من شر ما استعاذ منه نبيك محمد صلى الله عليه وسلمO Allah! Verily I ask You of the good which Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam  asked of You, and I seek refuge from the evil which Your Nabie Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam  sought refuge from.Advice1. These Duas should be read with sincerity, for the pleasure of Allah Ta'ala.2. It should be read regularly.Once there was a Ijtima in Azaadville, during the programme Bhai Abdul Wahhab Saheb fell asleep. I covered him whilst he was asleep. When he awoke, he enquired as to who had covered him and on finding out it was me, he gave me a lot of Duas. He then took out a card and began reciting some Wazaaif. I told him, “You also have some Taweez.” He replied, “these are the morning and evening Duas that I recite daily.”    The rewards and benefits promised for these Duas are guaranteed. However, we are many times deprived of these benefits due to our sins. We find a man ill in hospital, but he is busy flirting with the nurse and watching the TV. These sins deprive us from the benefit of these Wazaaif. For example, a person imports goods from China and he is expecting a profit margin of 500%. However, his paperwork is not in order so the custom officials are not releasing the goods. He is unable to sell the goods and accrue any profit. Similarly, sins deprive us of all benefit. Many people feel that we cannot abandon sins in this day and age. This is incorrect. One should seek forgiveness by making Istighfaar which will cause our sins to decrease. A person that gets the Taufeeq of Istighfaar will fly towards Allah Ta'ala.Hadrat Thanwi R.A. has written an incident of a person aged 20-25 that got married. He used to mess the bed daily with urine. The newly wed wife asked him, “Why are you messing the bed as you are no longer a kid?” He replied, “I see a dream daily in which Shaytaan takes me for a long walk. I then have an urge to relieve myself so Shaytaan takes me to an ultra-hygiene toilet in which I relieve myself.” The wife said, “You know that we are poor and living a difficult life, why don’t you ask Shaytaan to show you all the treasures, as he is the leader of the evil Jinn and well aware of where the treasures are kept?” That night he requested Shaytaan to direct him to all the treasures. Shaytaan showed him a metal trunk full of treasures, he tried picking it up but it was so heavy that he relieved himself, but this time leaving stool on the bed. His wife said that this is even worse, you should rather stick to your old habit.Hadrat Thanwi R.A. explains the above incident and explains that a person totally detests urine, stool, etc. However, sins are even worse than urine and stool. In the Quraan Sharif Allah Ta'ala states,لَهُ مُعَقِّبَاتٌ مِّن بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِ يَحْفَظُونَهُ مِنْ أَمْرِ اللّهِFor everyone there are guardian angels in front of him and behind him protecting him from harm by Allah’s order.By backbiting the angels flee from a person due to the evil stench that gives off from the backbiter’s mouth. In another Hadith Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam reports,لعن  الله الناظر والمنظور اليهاAllah curses the one who looks at (strange women) and the one who is being looked towards (the women). The person that cannot protect his gazes is deprived of the benefit of these Wazaaif as well.In the Quraan Sharif, Allah Ta'ala states,وَكَذَلِكَ نُوَلِّي بَعْضَ الظَّالِمِينَ بَعْضًا بِمَا كَانُواْ يَكْسِبُونَIn a like manner, We make some of the oppressors companions of others because of the evil deeds they perpetrate. This verse is quite explicit that Allah Ta'ala places oppressive rulers upon us due to our sins. However, Allah Ta'ala does not derive any enjoyment in punishing us. In the Quraan Sharif Allah Ta'ala states,مَّا يَفْعَلُ اللّهُ بِعَذَابِكُمْ إِن شَكَرْتُمْ وَآمَنتُمْ وَكَانَ اللّهُ شَاكِرًا عَلِيمًاWhy must Allah Ta'ala punish you if you are grateful and have Imaan? Allah Ta'ala is all appreciative, All knowing. In short, we should totally abandon sins to benefit from these Wazaaif.May Allah Ta'ala grant us the Taufeeq to practice. Ameen.

Virtues of Reciting Hasbiyalla Daily

Allah is sufficient for me, there is no deity except him, upon him I place my trust and he is the Rabb of the great throne.Any person that recites the above Dua seven times morning and evening (i.e. after Fajr Salaah and Maghrib Salaah), Allah Ta’ala will take care of his problems (grief) pertaining to the world and the hereafter.Hadrat Shah Hakim Muhammad Akhtar Saheb Daamat Barakaatuhum says, “If Switzerland could manufacture a watch that is water proof, what is it difficult for Allah Ta’ala to make one’s heart worry proof.” When Allah Ta’ala will protect the heart, then Allah Ta’ala will protect the body as well.  The commentators of Hadith have written what is meant by worry,الهم هو الذى يذيب الانسان Worry is such a thing that will destroy the human being. When a person is afflicted with problems and worry, one lies in bed and is reluctant to even get up. Many a times these worries drive a person to the act of suicide. Hadrat Maulana Abdul Hamid Saheb Daamat Barakaatuhum explains that Allah Ta’ala is that being who is the Rabb of the great Arsh (throne). The throne of Allah is that place where all decisions are finalised, such as the increase of the petrol price, the fluctuation of the rand dollar exchange, the decision made by any judge is actually made there and then implemented in the world etc. If a person strengthens his bond and relationship with the owner of the Arsh, such a person will not suffer any form of grief. The decision of Allah Ta’alaIf a person realises that whatever occurrences or mishaps take place in one’s life is in reality the decision of Allah Ta’ala, such a person will not waste his energy blaming others and fighting with others. In one Hadith Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said,من اصلح ما بينه وبين ربه اصلح الله ما بينه وبين خلقهWhoever corrects his relationship with his Rabb, Allah Ta’ala will correct his relationship with the creation. If you are mine (O Allah), then everything is mine, the heavens are mine, the earth is mineIf you are not mine, then nothing is mine. A beneficial incidentA group of Mujahideen were deputed to fight against the Romans. Whilst travelling one Sahaabi slipped and fell, breaking his thigh bone. The remainder of the army were unable to remain behind and attend to the Sahaabi. They fastened his horse next to him and left some food at his side, and proceeded. Suddenly a person appeared and asked the Sahaabi, “What is the matter?” He replied, “I had fallen from my conveyance thus breaking my thigh bone.” The person then advised the Sahaabi to place his hand on the injured section and recite the following verse,فَإِن تَوَلَّوْاْ فَقُلْ حَسْبِيَ اللّهُ لا إِلَـهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَهُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِIf they turn away then say, Allah is sufficient for me (even if the entire world turns against me). There is none worthy of worship but Him, On Him only do I rely and He is the Rabb of the glorious throne.Allah Ta’ala caused the broken bone to heal, he mounted his horse and then departed. The above Dua should be recited with conviction, but always bear in mind that cure is only from Allah Ta’ala. One should always place his trust on Allah Ta’ala.Allama A’loosi Rahmatullahi Alaihi, the great Mufti of Baghdad, author of the Tafseer Ruhul Ma’aani states, “I have been reciting this verse of the Quraan Sharif for many years and it is a part of my daily recitals, I am extremely grateful to Allah Ta’ala for this.” May Allah Ta’ala grant us goodness by the blessings of this daily recital. We should also make Dua that Allah Ta’ala suffices us by the blessings of this Wazifa.May Allah Ta’ala grant us the Taufeeq of practising. Ameen!

Importance of Ikhlaas Sincerity

Allama Nawawi R.A and other great scholars that three Ahadith form the basis of Deen. All deeds will be judged according to the intentions, every person will be rewarded according to his intention, whosoever had migrated for the pleasure of Allah and his Rasul Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam then such a person will receive the reward of migrating towards Allah and His Rasul Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam whosoever had migrated to obtain material possessions then such a person will be rewarded accordingly. Bukhari / Muslim. It is from amongst the beauty of a person’s Islam that he abandons things that do not concern himThe third Hadith is,الا ان فى الجسد لمضغة اذا صلحت صلح الجسد كله واذا فسدت فسد الجسد كله الا وهى القلبBe-aware verily in the body is a piece of flesh, If it (the piece of flesh) is correct the entire body will be correct, and if this piece of flesh is corrupt the entire body will be corrupt, listen! This is the heart.A Dua taught to us by Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi WasallamImaam Bukhari R.A had started his Sahih Bukhari with the hadith of sincerity due to the importance of sincerity. Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said, “If a pitch black ant moves on a pitch black night on a pitch black rock, nobody will be able to see it and hear it. Stealthier than that ostentation enters into a person yet he is totally unaware of it.” Hadrat Abu Bakr R.A immediately said, O Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam, in that case we will all be destroyed. Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam taught Sahaaba a Dua to recite by which they will be protected,اللهم انى اعوذبك ان اشرك بك شيئا وانا اعلم واستغفرك لما لا اعلمOh Allah! I seek refuge in You from ascribing any partners to You knowingly, and I seek Your forgiveness from that which I am unaware of. The person that recites the above Dua daily will be protected from ostentation and will become 100% sincere Insha’Allah.Hadrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi R.A has taken a Qasm and mentioned that Ikhlaas can only be obtained by spending time in the company of the Ahlullah (friends of Allah). Our Sheikh Daamat Barakaatuhum says, “How important isn’t this for those individuals that serve Deen throughout their lives, yet they are victims of ostentation?”Canal of ZubeidaZubeida was the wife of the mighty king Haroun-Ar-Rasheed. After her demise someone had seen her in a dream and asked her how did it fare? She replied that Allah c had blessed her with various bounties. She was then asked, “Were you blessed with these bounties due to the social work you had offered?” Zubeidah had got a canal built from Baghdad to Makkah which provided fresh water for the Hujjaj, and this was built at such a time when fresh water was not available in Makkah Sharif. She replied, “NO! It was on account of certain intentions that I had in my heart which nobody was aware of.”Imaam Shafi R.A mentions that every person should have some intentions which should not be exposed to others at all, to such an extent that one should not even inform his wife. These intentions will be of tremendous benefit to a person on the day of Qiyamah.Hadrat Ibrahim Alaihis SalaamHadrat Ibrahim Alaihis Salaam had spoken an apparent lie thrice which is termed as Tawriyah in Shariah. (i.e. When a person’s life is in danger or one fears oppression, in order to protect oneself one is permitted to utter such a statement whereby he intends something but the listener understands otherwise, by which one is protected). Ibrahim Alaihis Salaam had experienced such scenarios thrice in his lifetime and Ibrahim Alaihis Salaam acted upon Tawriyah. However, two incidents have been recorded in the Quraan Sharif. The one incident that has been recorded pertain to the occasion when Ibrahim u was asked, “Who has done this (i.e. broke) our idols, O Ibrahim?” He replied, “The large one from amongst them has done it, Ask them if they have the ability to speak.”The second incident mentioned in the Quraan is when Ibrahim A.S said, Verily I am sick and did not attend the festival that was being celebrated. The third incident has not been recorded in the Quraan Sharif. Ibrahim A.S. was questioned by an oppressive king, “Who is this woman with you?” If she was someone’s wife, the king will take possession of her and get involved in evil with her. So Ibrahim u replied, “This is my sister.” Why isn’t the third instance recorded in the Quraan? As Ibrahim Alaihis Salaaam had some personal gain and benefit in the lie, thus it was left out. Allah c only accepts that which is purely done for the pleasure of Allah Ta'aala..Niyyat of a believer is better than his Amalنية المؤمن خير من عملهThe niyyat of a believer is better than his action. When the Bani Israeel were affected with droughts, a person amongst the Bani Israeel made a niyyat that if a certain mountain was turned to wheat he would have distributed it to all the needy people. On this Allah Ta'ala informed the Nabi of the time to go and inform this person that according to his niyyat Allah Ta'ala has rewarded him. How do we know whether a person is true in his niyyat or not? A person that carries out that which is within his reach indicates towards his sincerity. For example, a person is earning R5000 he cannot give R50,0000, but he can give R5 or R50 in charity.Moulana In'aamul Hassan Saheb R.A said that a person should make niyyat in the morning when he gets up that he will not make kufr, shirk, nifaaq (hypocrisy), bid'aat (innovations), drink liquor, back bite, cast evil glances, commit adultery, gamble, etc. On this intention he will get the reward of abstaining from all these acts that are  haraam. If he does not make the intention and does not commit all this, he will not get sin nor any reward. But, by making an intention he will get all this reward! Similarly we should make niyyat that we will fulfill all Allah Ta'ala’s commands, stay on Imaan and Islam, have sincerity, remain humble, perform 5 times Salaah, with jamaat, etc. By making such intentions, one will get all this reward!Moulana Qamaruz Zaman Saheb of Ilahabaad says that when a person becomes old, he becomes physically weak, he cannot do all those actions which he use to do when he was young, so now take work of niyyat. Niyyat is easy to make and great rewards will be attained.Moulana Muhammad Ilyaas Saheb R.A once asked his son Moulana Yusuf Saheb R.A, what niyyat did you make when delivering the khutba? He replied, “The niyyat that it is sunnat.” Moulana said, “Had you made the niyyat that Allah Ta'ala must convey this message to all the people of the world you should have got so much thawaab.”May Allah Ta'ala give us the Taufeeq to check and correct our intention at all times! Ameen.By Hadrat Maulana Abdul Hamid Saheb Daamat Barakaatuhum
