Sunnats after performing Wudhu

Perform the Sunnats (Salaah) at home before proceeding to the Masjid.

If there isn’t any time for this the same could be performed in the Masjid. Note:- In today’s times, due to Sunnats being neglected, it is preferable to perform them in the Masjid. (Kamaalate Ashrafiyya)

Wearing clothing

When wearing one's trousers, first put on the right leg, then the left one. When putting on a Kurta or shirt, first put on the right sleeve and then the left one. The same procedure should be followed when wearing a vest. When wearing a shoe, first put on the right shoe. When removing any garment or shoe, first remove the left, then the right. This is the Sunnat method when removing any garment from the body.

Clipping the nails

Clipping the nails is a Sunnat of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and also a protection from diseases and illnesses. Generally it was the practise of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam to clip his nails either on Thursday or Friday. Fortunate is the person for whom Sunnat has become nature. The moment the nails grow a little long, they do not delay in clipping  the nails. Generally it is Mustahab (preferable) not to clip the nails during the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah. If acting upon the Sunnat of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam has become nature, one will clip his nails as soon as his Qurbani is done as he will feel uneasy. In 1979 some people claimed that Imaam Mahdi had appeared in Makkah Mukarramah. The Saudi government had taken certain people into custody in order to ascertain who is actually responsible for initiating these claims. Amongst the people that were taken into custody was Hadrat Maulana Saeed Khan Saheb R.A. Whilst in custody he was allowed to return home for an hour or so. In that hour Hadrat had clipped his nails and removed the moustache as practising upon this Sunnat of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam had become nature. It is Sunnah to clip the nails on Thursday as well so that the day of Jumuah can be reserved for the direct Ibaadat of Allah Ta’ala. Clipping the nails is a Sunnat act which is also Ibaadt but an indirect form of Ibaadat.  According to some narrations, Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam used to clip his nails every fortnight. This narration actually refers to those occasions when Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam went out in Jihaad and was un-able to clip the nails on a weekly basis. According to medical research, the stomach is infected or harmed by those germs that remain under the nails. The stomach plays an extremely vital role in the human body as the stomach is responsible for distributing the vitamins from the food that one has consumed to the various organs and limbs of the body (such as the vitamins required by the brain, eyes, ears, etc.).  Due to this important function of the stomach the Hakims advise that cold water or even more detrimental cold soft drinks should not be drunk during meals as this freezes the stomach of a person as a result of which the relevant vitamins cannot be distributed. When a person smells food then saliva gathers in the mouth. The reason for the saliva gathering is that the stomach is in reality preparing itself  for digestion. By drinking ice cold soft drinks the digestive system is so to say shut off not allowing it to function any further. Pre-dominantly food is prepared by women in the homes and restaurants. Generally restaurants have rules in place for hygienic purposes, but as the saying goes rules are meant to be broken, thus it is possible that sometimes the hands are not washed or sanitised prior to preparing the meals. If the women preparing the meals have lengthy nails then we can well imagine the condition of the food that we are consuming and the harms attached to it. When the germs beneath the finger nails enter the food particles then the stomach distributes germs instead of vitamins, thus the high number of stomach ailments and diseases. Medical experts have also written that women that keep long nails are generally anaemic and suffer from more psychological problems. Many women that grow their nails use bright coloured cutex on their nails. These bright colours have an adverse effect on them mentally which extends to such an extent that one goes to the extent of considering suicide. Hadrat Sheikh Maulana Muhammad Zakariyya Saheb R.A used to say, “If people regard poison as medicine then what cure can there be for such people?” In conclusion, we shouldn’t be concerned of scientific research but act upon the Sunnat as these are the teachings of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam which can only be beneficial.

Sunnat method of wearing clothing

We all have to wear clothes, even non-Muslims have to wear clothes. So do this act according to sunnat and just think that this is the sunnat of my Nabî Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam. And the sunnat method is not difficult either! When wearing the kurtâ, and even a shirt for that matter -though it is not sunnat to wear a shirt -  we can wear it according to sunnat; that is put the right hand in the right sleeve first, and then the left hand in the left sleeve. For this, in this day and age we will get the reward of a hundred martyrs. The martyr of the battlefield gets the reward of a single shahîd, while this shahîd gets the reward of 100 shaheeds and does not even die! Then put the right leg in the right side of the trouser, then the left leg in the left side. And dare not give somebody an appointment the 1st thing in the morning! Wear your trouser first! What will happen if you gave an appointment and you do not have your trouser on?! Our Sheikh (dâmat barakâtuhum) says, in his wonderful, humorous way, that there are only 3 ways you can wear your trousers, firstly, the left leg in the left side first. Never do this, this is the way of shaytân. The 2nd way is to hang the trouser between 2 chairs and make a runaway in the house and run and jump with both legs at one time into the trouser. Never try this, this is not sunnat and you will break your head and back, and won’t succeed either. The 3rd way is the simple sunnat way, that is the right leg in the right side first and then the left side. The same ruling applies with the socks and shoes. Ladies have an added bonanza and gift. They bring up the children, so if they teach the children to wear their clothes according to sunnat, as long as they will carry on doing it and in turn teach their children, all the rewards will accrue in their account as well! Children of 2 years, the terrible 2, do all impossible and upside down things, they will wear the left foot first in the right shoe, and the right foot in the left shoe. So if the mother teaches the child, “My darling, the right foot in the right shoe first and then the left foot in the left shoe,” for a few days and the child gets used to it and carries on doing it its whole life and teaches it to others, the mother will carry on getting its reward for as long as this action carries on. May Allah Ta'ala grant us the ability to learn every sunnat. Try and acquire our Sheikh’s little pocket size booklet titled ‘The beautiful sunnats of our beloved Nabî Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam’.  May Allah Ta'ala grant us the ability to inculcate the love of every sunnat, practise upon it, and spread it in the entire ummah! Âmîn.
