A Satanic Deception: A Word of Warning

A married couple should constantly remember that, the shortcomings of any one partner does not warrant that the rights of the other partner should be neglected in any way. It is a satanic deception that if one of the partners is involved in sin or is negligent of the other partner’s rights then one should reciprocate by involving oneself in the same sin. This warped thinking is destructive. Every individual will be responsible for his own actions, every individual will have to be placed in his own grave, every individual will have to face the Creator and answer for his actions. A person should have the Aakhirah as his main concern, if a person is a little tolerant and make a little sacrifice in this temporary world then the everlasting bounties of Jannah will be easily acquired. If both partners are constantly mindful of fulfilling each other’s rights then the world will become a paradise for them. They will also reap tremendous rewards in the hereafter. Their existence in the world will be peaceful and Allah will help and aid them from His unseen bounties during times of difficulties.  The first step in attaining this blissful existence, is by acquiring the basic knowledge of Deen. As it is stated in Quran, “Those who do good actions from male and female and they are believers, We will certainly grant them a blissful life.” The following kitaabs are recommended to attain this basic knowledge: Tablighi Nisab (1 & 2) Talimul Islam Behishti Zewar THE MUSLIM WIFE BY: Sufi Iqbal Sahib This is an extract from the  Kitaab which is meant to help and encourage our daughters in Islam, to bring Deen into their marriages, homes and the lives of the children.

Strategy Towards Fulfilling Each Other's Rights

The Deen of Islam is a natural religion and its teachings are perfectly suited to the needs of the creation. Every individual teaching of Islam contains great benefit. However the perfection of every teaching must be in conformity to the whole of Deen. An example of a machine, every bolt in the machine is significant in order for it to work smoothly and to operate in symphony with the larger parts of the machine, to produce maximum results. Likewise every teaching of Islam correlated with the collective teachings of Islam will also produce maximum results. The framework of Shariat comprises of the following basic teachings: Correct beliefs. Righteous deeds. Sincerity and morality. Control of the Nafs at the time of conflicting emotions. To bear in mind the reprisal of the hereafter, whereby for every act of oppression, one’s years of accepted, sincere Ibaadat in the form of Namaaz, Roza, etc. will be confiscated to fulfil the rights of the one who was oppressed. If one had committed such acts then with great remorse and regret one should repent and beg Allah for forgiveness and one should ask the person who was oppressed for forgiveness. Even if it is humiliating, even if the person is one’s sub-ordinate then he should still ask for forgiveness from him or her. The matter of “Huqooqul Ibaad” is a very weighty matter. Nabi Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam, despite being the noble leader and benefactor to the Sahabah (RA), who were such companions to Nabi Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam that they would sacrifice their lives to prevent the minutest difficulty to their beloved master. A master who possessed such a lofty character that Allah says in the Quran, “Certainly thou art upon the noblest of character.” (68:03) This was the noble character of Nabi Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam however despite this, at the time of his demise, in a state of pain and feverish weakness, Rasulullah Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam ascends the Mimbar of his blessed masjid. His Mubarak head was enshrouded with a bandage, he was supported by his cousin Fadhl bin Abbas (RA), and he gathers the Sahabah (RA) and commences a sermon thus, “The moments of departure have dawned. Rasulullah Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam openly permits anyone that he had wronged in any way to gladly come forward and avenge their wrongs. That person should not fear the slightest retribution or displeasure by Rasulullah Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam, as it is not his habit to harbour any malice nor is it befitting him. I love that a person avenges himself or opts to forgive me. I wish to meet Allah with a clear conscience. I am not satisfied with one announcement.” After the Zuhr Salaah Rasulullah Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam ascended the Mimbar a second time and repeated the sermon, furthermore advising the companions (RA), “Those who are in credit with their rights to fulfil their rights at the closest opportunity and to reject the fear of disgrace and humiliation, for verily the disgrace of the Aakhiraat is far more severe. One of the companions (RA) arose and said, “O Nabi of Allah Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam, you owe me three dirhams.” In reply Nabi Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam said, “I do not falsify the claimant nor do I demand a sworn statement from him, I merely wish to understand the circumstances surrounding the debt. The person replied that once a beggar asked of Rasulullah Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam and the beggar was referred to him, hence the debt was incurred. Rasulullah Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam instructed Hazrat Fadhl (RA) to pay the man. Thereafter many people came to Rasulullah Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam and requested Duas from him, some began confessing their sins. Hazrat Umar (RA) chided them for revealing their faults, Rasulullah Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam prevented him saying, “O, Umar the disgrace of the world is insignificant in comparison to the disgrace of the hereafter.” Hazrat Umar (RA) addressed the crowd regarding some matter, whereupon Rasulullah Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam said, “Umar is with me and I am with Umar. After me the Haq (truth) will follow Umar.” Thereafter Rasulullah Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam delivered the same sermon to the womenfolk in the house of Hazrat Ayesha (RA).” THE MUSLIM WIFE BY: Sufi Iqbal Sahib This is an extract from the  Kitaab which is meant to help and encourage our daughters in Islam, to bring Deen into their marriages, homes and the lives of the children.

Marriage an Ibadaat

Islam has not only considered marriage a necessity of life but it has granted it the status of Ibaadat (worship). Whereby they can attain the proximity and closeness of Allah Ta’ala. This is why Rasulullah Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam has practically demonstrated this to us by his personal example of kindness and goodwill to women. “The best of you is he who is best to his wife and I am the best amongst you, towards my wives.” This is why those who study his lifestyle, find justice, fair-play and consideration towards the fairer sex as part of his nature, such justice that great claimants of equality and human rights have failed to display in their lives. There is no parallel to be found to the great concern he showed in pleasing his wives with various forms of legal entertainment. Rasulullah Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam was so concerned about women that, the beloved act of Namaaz would be shortened due to the crying of an infant, he did not want the mother to become restless on account of the wailing of her child. He did this for a common woman of his congregation. It is hoped that every upright believer would readily comply with the teachings of Islam with regard to women. That the noble example and characteristics of Rasulullah Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam would be observed regarding the treatment of women. Prophetic Kindness to Women

Rasulullah Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam greatly enhanced the respect and status of women and he took great care and concern in their affairs. Trivial acts of Ibaadat by women have been equated to great acts of effort and exertion by men.  Allah Ta’ala  in His wisdom has created women physically weak and fragile. This was in order that the responsibility of supporting and providing for women be placed upon the shoulders of men. At the same time the men have been directed to be kind, considerate, indulging and forgiving towards them. He has been warned sternly from oppressing them in any way.   THE MUSLIM WIFE BY: Sufi Iqbal Sahib This is an extract from the  Kitaab which is meant to help and encourage our daughters in Islam, to bring Deen into their marriages, homes and the lives of the children.

Mutual Relationship-Mutual Rights

An Ayat of Quran: “And women shall have rights similar to the rights upon them.” (2:228) Just as love is mutual and common to both parties so too are the rights devolving upon them are two-sided. Allah Ta’ala in His infinite mercy and wisdom has mentioned the rights of women before the rights of men in the above Ayat of Quran because a man, due to his inherent power and strength can easily obtain his rights from a woman. Thus more prominence has been accorded to the rights of women, who cannot forcibly obtain their rights. The second point to note in this verse of the Quran is that man should take the initiative to fulfill his responsibilities because the Quran has made mention of the rights of women first. The Purpose of Marriage

An Ayat of Quran: “And among His signs is that He has created for you mates from among yourselves, that you may dwell in tranquillity with them and He has put mercy and love between your hearts.” (30:21) In the above verse of the Quran Allah Ta’ala describes the wisdom and purpose of women, that they are a source of peace and tranquillity for man. Every need a man desires from a woman centres around the achievement of this tranquillity.  This is the basis of a successful marriage. The marriage that denies this is an unsuccessful marriage. This peace of mind and tranquillity can only be achieved when both the partners understand each other’s duties, rights and responsibilities and then they fulfil these duties. These mutual rights are of such a nature that no law can truly govern them nor can any system of justice, rule over them. It is merely the fear of Allah Ta’ala and the dread of prosecution in the Divine Court of Justice that can truly spur the couple to fulfil their duties to each other. As an added favour Allah Ta’ala has created such a bond of affection and love between them that it surpasses all legal restrictions and it encourages them towards the fulfilment of each other’s rights. Nikah

Nikah Bayaan delivered in Port Elizabeth   وَلَهُنَّ مِثْلُ الَّذِي عَلَيْهِنَّ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَلِلرِّجَالِ عَلَيْهِنَّ دَرَجَةٌ And they (women) have rights (that men owe to them) similar to those (that men have) over them (which should be fulfilled) in kindness. (However) men have a degree (of responsibility and guardianship) above them (above women).   For women are rights similar to the rights that are upon them. Both, the husband and the wfe have rights to fulfil towards each other according to the norms of a healthy society. What the people of a society regard as rights of the husband and wife will be regarded as rights of the spouses. This is one meaning of the word “Maaroof” that is mentioned in the verse. Another meaning of ‘Maroof’ in the verse means that both have rights towards each other that ought to be fulfilled which must be according to Shariat. In the end of the verse Allah Ta'ala says, “Men enjoy a rank of superiority.”  He has been made the Amir or leader of the house. An Amir is required in all works of life. In congregational Salaah we appoint one person as the Imaam. In the Masjid committee, one person is appointed as the chairman. If we maintain this, we will have a sober home and consequently a sober society and nation. It starts from within oneself. We want the world to be corrected but we do not want to correct ourselves. This is certainly not the way. We should correct ourselves and the world will be corrected.       An interesting point that our Sheikh R.A. had pointed out towards was that Allah Ta’ala had commenced the verse by speaking of the rights of the women first followed by the rights of the husband and finally ended by stating that the man enjoys a position that is higher. Initially the rights of the wife have been mentioned as she is the weaker of the two. At times they have even lost their parents so Allah Ta’ala takes her part and intercedes on behalf of her that her rights should be considered and fulfilled. The rights of the spouses can be understood by means of an example. There is a cart that is moving with wheels on either side. If these wheels on either side are in order, the cart will move without any problems. However, if both the wheels are only on one side the cart will not be able to move. It is the duty of the husband to earn and provide for the family, so he will remain out of the home in order to fulfil this obligation. The duty of the women is to remain indoors so that she may take care of the kids, prepare the meals, etc. If both wheels are on their correct position the cart will now move perfectly. If the husband and wife leave the house to earn then both wheels are now on one side not allowing the cart to move as desired. If the mother is out at work who will attend to the needs of the children? We try to substitute and replace this with a maid but she can never see to the children with the love and affection the mother does. In short, both should play their respective roles. The husband should be compassionate towards the wife expressing kindness and love whilst the wife should display obedience to the husband. The wife desires that her rights be fulfilled but is not concerned of fulfilling the rights of the husband. The husband complains that the wife is not fulfilling his rights yet he does not bother fulfilling her rights. On the day of Qiyaamah Allah Ta’ala will not question the husband or wife whether their right was fulfilled by the other party or not, rather Allah Ta’ala will ask you whether you had fulfilled the rights of the other person. If we realise this we will get our lives and homes in order and ultimately the community and the nation will be in order. In another verse Allah Ta’ala states, وَعَاشِرُوهُنَّ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ Live with them in kindness (treating them well). Live with them in a way that is acceptable or according to a sober society and not that society whose minds are warped, or live with them in a manner that is according to Shariat. The Mufassireen have written,   فيه تعليم الاحسان الى النساء والرفق بهن والصبر على اعواجهن In it is the teaching of kindness to women and being kind to them and being patient upon their crookedness. The three ways of dealing with a person. The first is termed as ‘Thulm’ where a person oppresses the wife and treats her unjustly. This is totally Haraam and should be discarded.  The second is called “Adal” which is justice or equality. You treat a person according to the manner he treats you. If she speaks ill of his parents, he will treat her like wise. Each one tries to score points against the other one.  The third method is Ihsaan (i.e. even though one is bad to you, you treat him kindly). If she says, “Your mother is a witch then you tell her that her mother is a fairy.” By doing so, you will win as her heart will automatically melt. However, if you respond by saying that her mother is a bigger witch then there will be continuous problems that will never end. This is a quality that should be adopted by the men as men have broad shoulders, a big heart, etc. This type of character has to be displayed initially thereafter she will give preference to you in all matters but on condition that you win her heart. On the contrary, if you break her heart then what can be placed in a broken heart?  Allah Ta'ala states in the Quraan, وَلَا تَسْتَوِي الْحَسَنَةُ وَلَا السَّيِّئَةُ ادْفَعْ بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ Good and evil cannot be equal. Resist (the harassment and insults of your enemies) with that (form of resistance) which is best (by being kind and forgiving).   It s mentioned in the Hadith that women have been created from the crooked rib of man, therefore we shouldn’t expect her to be straight. The raw material was supplied by the man. Another interesting point is that she was not created with skull bone therefore you should not put her on your head and forget your mother. She was not made from the bone of the leg therefore she should not be made a football and kicked around, neither was she made from the knuckle bones that she should be made a punching bag. Allah Ta’ala had not put any bones in your tongue therefore you should not use any harsh words on her. Allah Ta’ala has kept the tongue soft therefore soft and kind words should be spoken. If one has to correct some wrong then it should be corrected using the correct approach. It should not be corrected in the wrong way. Do not use harsh words and worsen the situation. She was created from the rib close to the heart, therefore give her place in your heart and keep her in your heart with love. The world can be controlled with love. The wife can be controlled with the iron fist or with love and kindness. The hard hearted man may control the wife with the iron fist but this will not bear any results. On the other hand, if one controls with love and kindness then one may not achieve immediate results but wonderful results will be noticed over time.  In the Quraan Sharif, Allah Ta’ala says that Nikah is from amongst the great signs of Allah Ta’ala which means that one is able to attain the friendship of Allah Ta'ala through Nikah. It is recorded in the Hadith that Nikah is half of Imaan. For the remainder, one may acquire Taqwa. A person will experience tests in his marriage. If he passes the test, he will become the Wali of Allah Ta'ala and have a life of Jannat in this world. Any man that protects his gazes will be convinced that his wife is a Hur of Jannat which Allah Ta’ala has blessed him with in this world. May Allah Ta’ala grant us the Taufeeq. Ameen!

Special advices to those regarded as Deeni people

This talk is for those that are close to Deen and observe Deen. It is not for those that are far away from Deen. This talk is not for those that are having wedding functions that are far from Sunnat rather we are addressing those whose weddings are on the level of Sunnat. In this there are some guidelines and a revision of what we have already learnt. We know the type of weddings we are having with so much of extravagance. Money is literally been burnt up in these gatherings. We are not discussing those people but we are discussing those that are in Deeni circles and require reformation. It is mentioned in the Hadith, اعلنوا هذا النكاح واجعلوه فى المساجدAnnounce the Nikah and make it in the Masajid From amongst us people, who is it that announces the Nikah. We give others invitation towards the Nikah. We were not commanded to invite to the Nikah rather we have been commanded to announce it. There are two basic ways of announcing the Nikah. The first is by writing the Nikah on the Masjid boards so people are informed of the Nikah. Marhoom Maulana Muhammad Mia Saheb R.A, the father of Maulana Ebrahim Mia Saheb R.A of Mia’s farm got most of his children married in the Kerk Street Masjid after Jumuah Salaah. Maulana would stand up after Jumuah Salaah and request the people in the Gujrati language to sit down for a little while as his son or daughter will be getting married. The main thing is to announce and not to invite. The greatest Buzurg is none other than Rasulullah Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam yet there were occasions where he too wasn’t invited for a Nikah. Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam had seen a yellow colour on the clothing of one Sahaabi. When asked, “what is this, he replied that he has just performed Nikah.” Nikah was previously something that would be carried out by the way but today we have made it a big issue. Simplicity in Nikah One Sahaabi takes a proposal on behalf of another Sahaabi but the girl’s party express their pleasure in getting their daughter married to him (who brought the proposal). The Sahaabi gets married immediately. There isn’t a big function. Hadrat Sheikh R.A used to say that performing of two Rakaats Sunnah Salaah is a Sunnah and performance of Nikah is also a Sunnah. He further explains that the amount of preparation made for the two Rakaats Sunnah Salaah is the same amount of preparation that I would make for Nikah. The conditions for the validity of Salaah are simple such as the clothing being paak, the place being paak, the body being paak, facing the Qibla, etc. Having these things in place requires minimal effort thus Nikah also requires minimal effort. Hadrat Hakim Saheb R.A. used to say that when a person intends performing two Rakaats of Sunnat salaah, neither does he print any cards nor does he put up a huge tent, and invites many people. Similarly, Nikah is also Sunnat and should be conducted in a similar manner. We also shouldn’t wait for the Ijtima to take place so that we can have the Nikah performed, nor should we wait for some Hadrat or Buzurg to come to perform the Nikah. Who was a greater Buzurg than Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam in Madinah Sharif? This is an important aspect that requires some attention. Is Nikah more important or is Walimah more important? It is Nikah that is more important. Walimah then follows in sequence as well as in priority. In regards to Nikah Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said in a Hadith, “Do not delay in three things. The performance of Salaah when the time of Salaah enters, the Janaazah Salaah when the Janazaah is ready, the Nikah of an unmarried woman when a suitable match is found.” This will then mean that a person shoudn’t even delay the Nikah until the day of Jumuah if a suitable match has been found. This doesn’t refer to the second marriage of an old man who has reached seventy, rather it refers to the first Nikah of a person. We say, “This is my first daughter so I need to keep her happy. When the last daughter is getting married then we say the same thing. We should realise that Nikah is something that takes place by the way. When I returned from U.P. then my Nikah was performed in less than a month. My Marhoom father had passed away thus I had carried out everything myself. There wasn’t any delay. Nikah of the daughters of Hadrat Sheikh R.A. There was once an Ijtima in Saharanpur. At Jumuah time, Hadrat Madni R.A told Hadrat Sheikh R.A that these are two young boys namely Maulana Yusuf Saheb R.A. and Maulana Inaamul Hassan Saheb R.A. who are of marriageable age. You have two young daughters so why don’t you get the Nikah performed? Without much contemplation he agreed without consulting with the girls and the Nikah was then performed. The rule of Shariat is that the father can get his Baaligah daughter married but when she is made aware of the marriage she may object if she is unhappy or approve of the marriage. He then informed the wife of the marriage of his daughters who said, “You should have informed me so that I could have prepared some clothing for them.” Hadrat Sheikh replied, “I didn’t know that my daughters were naked up to this point.” On the occasion of Nikah in our families, we should adopt such simple ways. The Barakah of a simple Nikah could then be seen in the Khidmaat of Deen in the work of Tabligh carried out by these two great Ulema in the world. These wives were great support to their husbands. Once Maulana Manzoor Nu’maani Saheb R.A enquired via his house women from the family of Maulana Yusuf R.A. Hadrat Maulana is hardly at home is she happy with it or must he speak to Maulana Yusuf Saheb R.A? She sad, “I have absolutely no objection even if Maulana Yusuf Saheb R.A goes out more in the path of Allah.” This is the result of Barakah in Nikah. When Nikah is supposed to be so simple and only an announcement is required when Nikah is most important then what about Walimah which is less important? It should be absolutely simple. On one Safr the Nikah of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam had taken place. He told the Sahaaba to bring along their own food which will be Walimah. On another occasion Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam had sent milk for his Walimah. Eat with the Niyyat of Walimah After my marriage I went for Haj and we were with Hadrat Mufti Mahmood Saheb R.A and a few students who were newly graduated. Marhoom Mufti Sulaiman Qaasim complained to Hadrat Mufti Saheb that Abdul Hamid got married but didn’t invite us to a Walimah. Hadrat said, “Eat this food with the Niyyat of Walimah.” There is no need to invite 200-300 people and hire a hall, etc. This custom of inviting many people, hiring a hall, etc. is in good pious people. The Walimah is a ittle feast which comprises of the poor and pious. If it means inviting ten people in your front room then it is sufficient as the Walimah. When Maulana Muhammad Suliman was going to Baberton for his Nikah, his father passed away in a motor car accident. His mother was a very pious woman who I had come to know later on that was the only woman in South Africa that wore Purda. She had made her husband Hafez-ul-Quraan. On this occasion she said that Nikah will continue. How many cancel the Nikah due to a funeral. When we will realise that both are ibaadaat then we will continue with both.    Maulana Abdullah Dhabelia’s brother got married. The girl’s party said that the function will be held at the hall. Maulana’s mother refused to attend the hall.                         Enquire as to what lifestyle the one intending marriage prefers The girl should be asked, “What do you want in life?” Some want a modern boy. The boy should also be asked the same. A new trend that has now started is that after proposal the boys profile is checked in twitter and funny comments and pictures are found there. Outwardly, they are very pious but it is unbelievable what they are tweeting and saying. The boy wants a pious Alima but he has something else in mind. This shouldn’t be the case where we spoil the life of someone else. Similarly, the girl shouldn’t spoil the boy’s life. If the girl wants a modern boy then she should look for someone that suites her. Don’t marry on a pretext and the problems then crop up at a later stage. So, there should be some form of pondering when making a decision in regards to a suitable partner. Once a suitable partner is found, there shouldn’t be any delay in making the Nikah. The father of Hadrat Mufti Mahmood Saheb R.A used to be invited to perform a Nikah. If he found anything un-Islamic he would request them to correct it. If corrected, then he would perform the Nikah else he would walk away. The result of this was that many incorrect practices were rectified. The Ulema should therefore keep away from halls and similar places.    Do not delay the Janaazah Salaah Regarding the delay in the Janaazah Salaah, this is alive to some extent whereby the Salaah is not delayed. The person passes away after Esha and the burial is completed by 11:00pm. A very wealthy family in Durban, the father had made a bequest that his burial shouldn’t be delayed. He passed away at 09:00 pm and he was buried at 01:00 am. The people hadn’t seen such a huge Janaazah in Durban. We say that people are coming from various parts of the country thus we should delay a little so that they may all participate. This is not a necessity, else Shariat would have said that the people coming from far and wide should be considered. Many Ulema that are teaching in Madrasahs and Darul Ulooms want to be present for the Janaazah but their duty at the Madrasah is not been fulfilled by remaining absent. Attending the Janaazah is Fardh-e-Kifaaya and attending to one’s duty at the Madrasah is Fardh-e-Ain. In the months of winter the Asr Salaah is during Madrasah hours. The Madrasah was located a few minutes away from the Masjid. My Ustaad Hafez Muhammad Salloo Saheb R.A. who was a Mureed of Hadrat Maulana Thanvi R.A used to say that Imaamat is also a responsibility and teaching is also a responsibility. He used to say that one should remain in the state of Wudhu, come exactly at the time of Salaah, and immediately thereafter return to teaching without even participating in the Dua after Salaah. It is not the duty of the Imaam to recite the Tasbeehaat and Dua after Salaah. This can be carried out individually by the Musallies. This is the fine understanding of things that is required. Fardh-e-Ain is more important The performance of Janaazah Salaah is indeed a great Ibaadah which carries great rewards, but we cannot give priority to Fardh-e-Kifaaya over Fardh-e-Ain. Some people travel hundreds of kilometres to attend a Janaazah yet the Fardh is neglected in the process. It is Waajib to perform Fardh Salaah with Jamaat. Hadrat Maulana Asadullah Saheb R.A. was so particular about his Jamaat Salaah that he would very seldom travel anywhere. Deoband is approximately half an hour away from Saharanpur. If he went to Deoband for some work he will enquire the times when the busses and trains will be departing. He will then choose a time  of departure where he wouldn’t miss Salaah with Jamaat. On one side, we won’t miss a Janazaah Salaah whilst on the other hand we miss our Jamaat Salaah which is Waajib whilst others even make their Salaah Qadhaa. Regarding Fardh Salaah, one should not run and come for Salaah. How many times don’t we hear that accidents occur when attending a Janaazah especially when people are rushing to get there. The time of Janaazah Salaah is fixed yet people are announcing that we are still awaiting the arrival of so and so. How people’s valuable time is now delayed. This is not the temperament of Shariat. In a certain country there was a Janaazah. There was an announcement that a certain car travelling from South Africa had a tyre puncture. We waited for 45 min and a certain person became sarcastic which was not the correct thing to do at that time and said, “One announcement! We asked, “What is it?” He said, “A car has just left Johannesburg so we can wait for them as well.” We should live with the Buzurgs and read their life stories so that we may get the understanding of Deen. When the father of Hadrat Sheikh R.A. had passed away the Janaazah Salaah was performed. In those days post cards were used to convey messages. He wrote to all his father’s acquaintances in India that he was aware that they will soon be coming for Ta’ziyat (to console the bereaved). He further wrote that he is perfectly consoled as he accepted this occasion of death as the decree of Allah Ta'ala. Negligence in Isaale-Thawaab What we are negligent of is Dua-e-Maghfirat and Isaale-Thawaab. He mentioned you people will come from Bombay to Saharanpur which is a two day journey and you will remain here for a period of two days and then another two days are required for returning. This is a minimum of six days travel. He said that the duration of six days is equivalent to 144 hours. This time can be utilised in reciting Quraan for the deceased even though it is spread out over a few years. This will be much more beneficial to the deceased. The travelling cost involved can be given in charity over a period of time on behalf of the deceased. When these acts have been completed send me a post card informing me that these acts have been carried out as people are lax in these matters. What we do is show our faces that we have also attended. We attended a Janaazah but do we even recite Surah Ikhlaas thrice? If a person doesn’t attend a Janaazah but recites Surah Ikhlaas thrice for the deceased then he has passed the reward of a entire Quraan Sharif. He can make Dua for the Marhoom but we are negligent in regard to these things. Our priorities aren’t in order.       I have written in my Wasiyyat  Naama (bequest) that Ulema residing at a distance should not even attend the Janazaah. They shoud continue with their services to Deen whether Imaamat or teaching as these things are much more important. The reward should then be transferred to me. The one’s living close by should attend. Rasulullah Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam not informed of a Janaazah There were times when Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam wasn’t informed of the Janaazah. A woman who used to clean Masjid-un-Nabawi, passed away at night and was buried. In the morning Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam asked about her as he did not see her. He was informed that she passed away last night but no objection was raised. The Sahaaba didn’t want to cause any discomfort to Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam. When we discard the important aspects of life then the unimportant things take precedence and become important. If a person’s father is coming by plane then who will fetch him? The brothers in business are working so they can’t free themselves yet Maulana is always free. He can easily take off as teaching is no real work. The principal also has to keep silent. This is deception in the Amaanat. Whether the salary is Jaiz or not is a separate issue. Many women also attend the Mayyit house where the laws of Purdah are not adhered to. There we are using the electricity and food yet the estate hasn’t been sorted out. A pious person visited another Buzurg who was in the throes of death. There was a little lamp that was burning. The moment he passed away the lamp was switched off. He then brought a lamp from his own home. He said, “As long as he was living we were permitted to use his lamp but now it belongs to the heirs.” The permission of the junior heirs is not even valid. The permission of the senior heirs is a requirement. We use the water and electricity without permission. The food is generally brought by others, then it is okay. The women always complain that the men are in front and they know we have to pass. What do the women have to go there for? There is no need whatsoever.

Nikah, A great Ibaadat

Nikah is an integral part of Deen. Nowadays, the universities promote and teach that one may do as he wishes thus implying that Nikah is not important. We shouldn't treat Nikah as a mere routine (i.e. a boy or girl that reaches marriageable age should get married), rather it should be treated as a command of Allah Ta'ala and the Sunnah of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam and be done as an Ibaadat. Similarly Salaah also should not be treated as a mere routine. Some of the Fuqaha are of the opinion that if a person performs Salaah but does not make the intention of fulfilling the command of Allah c then Salaah will not be discharged. When a person carries out the various forms of Ibaadah and makes the intention of fulfilling the command of Allah Ta'ala then this is true servitude. If a person gets married with the intention that he is fulfilling the command of Allah Ta'ala then such a person will always fulfil the command of Allah Ta'ala throughout marriage. Such a person will not miss his Esha or Fajr Salaah on the first night of marriage. Such a Nikah will then give a person the enjoyment of Jannat in this very world. On the contrary, if we get married regarding it as a ritual then one will commence his marriage with honeymoon which is purely done for satisfaction and against the command of Allah Ta'ala. A Nikah filled with blessings Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said, ان اعظم النكاح بركة ايسره مؤنة Verily the Nikah that contains the most Barakah is that Nikah in which the least amount of expenses is incurred. Due to the teachings mentioned in the above Hadith, simplicity should be adopted in our Nikahs. The need and importance of pre-marital classes There are certain restrictions and commands of Allah Ta'ala in Nikah that have to be adhered to, therefore one should acquaint himself with these laws and restrictions. A person studies the relevant manuals prior to learning how to drive a vehicle. A person intending to perform Haj attends Haj seminars or classes prior to undertaking the spiritual journey of Haj. Similarly one should do a course wherein one is educated regarding the rights of one's spouse, in-laws, knowing one's own rights, etc. Knowledge is the leader and Amal (action) is the follower. One cannot act upon the injunctions of Shariat without possessing the relevant knowledge. The Ulema of every town should offer marriage classes. Rights of women In the Quraan Sharif Allah Ta'ala states, وَلَهُنَّ مِثْلُ الَّذِي عَلَيْهِنَّ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَلِلرِّجَالِ عَلَيْهِنَّ دَرَجَةٌ And they (women) have rights (that men owe to them) similar to those (that men have) over them (which should be fulfilled) in kindness. (However) men have a degree(of responsibility and guardianship) above them (above women). Hadrat Shah Hakim Muhammad Akhtar Saheb R.A says, "Why has Allah Ta'ala mentioned the rights of women first?" The women are generally weaker than men and many of them have even lost their parents, therefore Allah Ta'ala fights on their behalf. He is the defendant in their case. So the men should fulfil their rights just as they (the wives) have to fulfil the rights of the men. However, men enjoy a degree of superiority. The example of fulfilling rights from both sides is like the wheels of a car. If both the wheels of a car are placed on one side then such a car is unable to move. If the wheels are placed in their respective places then one will get the desired usage of the vehicle. Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam had taught Hadrat Ali and Fatima R.A their rights, that the external chores are the duty of Ali R.A and the internal work is the duty of Fatima R.A. In this age and era, the women are going to work thus this can be likened to placing both the wheels of the car on one side.   Many people are of the opinion that if both spouses are working then more wealth will be earned whereas in reality the Barakah of one's wealth is lost when the women go out to work. When the women go out to work they have to dress in a certain way and to maintain such a code of dress is costly. The kids that are at home require their mother therefore she is replaced with a maid which is again a costly affair. Also, the maid can never nurture and bring up the children as the mother does, nor can she show affection to the children as the mother does. In short, the loss suffered by one is greater than the benefit. Choosing a partner When choosing a wife, the man should select such a woman that will be a wife to him and not a model nor a career woman, as such women are unable to serve their husbands. They leave a note on the fridge stating that the food has been placed in the refrigerator and should be warmed. If the women play their role correctly according to Shariah then the children will be coolness of their eyes. Today, 99% of the children are not coolness of their parent's eyes. The saying "coolness of the eyes" refers to extreme joy. This extreme joy is part of Jannat which is given to one in this world in advance.            Treating the wife with kindness In another verse Allah Ta'ala states, وَعَاشِرُوهُنَّ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ Live with them in kindness (treating them well). What is meant by "Ma'roof" (kindness)? 1.Treat them in a kind manner according to the manner Allah and His Rasul Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam has commanded. 2. Treat them according to the manner that is accepted in society. 3.The third explanation of living with the women with kindness is as follows, فيه تعليم الاحسان الى النساء والرفق بهن والصبر على اعواجهن In it is the teaching of kindness to women and being kind to them and being patient upon their difficultness. Different forms of interaction There are different ways of dealing with a person. The first is called "Adal" which is justice or equality. You treat a person according to the manner he treats you. The second method is Ihsaan (i.e. even though one is bad to you, you treat him kindly). This is the method that was adopted by Imaam Abu Hanifa R.A. A person used to speak ill of Imaam Abu Hanifa R.A so he used to send sweetmeats to such a person.  This person had finally stopped speaking ill of Imaam Saheb. When he stopped Imaam Abu Hanifa R.A stopped supplying sweetmeats. He then asked Imaam Abu Hanifa R.A the reason. Imaam Saheb replied by saying that you were doing me a favour by speaking ill of me therefore I used to send sweetmeats to you. Now that you stopped speaking ill of me, I also stopped supplying the sweetmeats. So, repel evil by doing good. A man should exercise patience when a woman is difficult as she has been created from his left upper rib which is most crooked. When he had supplied the raw material, which was defective the end product will also be defective. May Allah Ta'ala grant us the Taufeeq of following the teachings of Shariah and the Sunnah of Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam in regards to Nikah, due to which the enjoyment of Jannat will be experienced in this world. Ameen!
