Virtues of Using the Miswaak

عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:

«عَلَيْكُمْ بِالسِّوَاكِ، فَإِنَّهُ مَطْهَرَةٌ لِلْفَمِ، مَرْضَاةٌ لِلرَّبِّ، مفرحَةٌ لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ، يَزِيدُ فِي الْحَسَنَاتِ، وَهُوَ مِنَ السُّنَنِ، وَجِلَاءٌ لِلْبَصَرِ، وَيَذْهَبُ الْحَفَرَ، وَيَشُدُّ اللِّثَةَ، وَيَذْهَبُ الْبَلْغَمَ، وَيُطَيِّبُ الْفَمَ».

وَزَادَ فِيهِ: «وَيُصْلِحُ الْمعدةَ».




Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbaas (Radiyallahu anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said, “Use the miswaak, for it purifies the mouth, is a means of pleasing Allah Ta'ala, a cause of pleasure to the malaa’ikah (angels), increases good deeds, it is from the sunnah practices, sharpens the eyesight, helps in removing scurvy (a disease affecting the gums), strengthens the gums, removes phlegm and gives the mouth a good smell.” In some narrations, it has also been mentioned that using the miswaak helps the stomach and improves digestion.”
