Aaishah (radhiyallahu 'anha) asked, "O Rasulullah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam)! Why is the hair of the goats of Banu Kalb mentioned in particular?" Rasulullah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) replied, "There isn't an Arab tribe with more goats than them."
'Ali (radhiyallahu 'anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) said, "(On the fifteenth night of Sha'baan,) Allah Ta'ala showers His special attention on the nearest sky. Thereafter Allah Ta'ala announces; 'Is there anyone who seeks forgiveness so that I may forgive him? Is there anyone who seeks sustenance so that I may grant it to him? Is there anyone who is in difficulty so that I may relieve him? These announcements continue until the break of dawn." (Ibn Majah)
Despite the great blessings of this night and the large number of people that are forgiven on it, the ahaadeeth explain that certain people are deprived of the forgiveness of Allah Ta'ala on this occasion. They are as follows:
1. The one who joins partners with Allah Ta'ala.
2. The one who has enmity, hatred and malice for another.
3. The one who is addicted to wine (and intoxicants).
4. The one who disobeys his parents.
5. That male who allows his lower garment to hang below his ankles.
6. The one who commits murder.
7. The one who commits adultery.
8. The one who cuts off family ties.
If, unfortunately, we fall under any of these categories, the sensible thing is that we make taubah from these sins on this auspicious night so that we are not deprived of Allah Ta'ala's mercy. After all, it was on this night that Maalik bin Dinaar (rahimahullah) made taubah from his evil ways, including the consuming of alcohol.
