Long hopes and desire of Dunya

Hadrat Jaabir R.A. narrates that Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said, “That which I fear most about my Ummat is regarding their carnal desires and their desire for long life.” Carnal desires prevent a person from accepting the truth, and the desire of long life causes one to forget of the Aakhirat, whereas the world will be left behind and the hereafter will appear before us. The Dunya and the Aakhirat both have children (i.e. those that follow and incline in a particular direction would either be categorised from amongst the children of the world or the Aakhirah). If you are able to avoid being a child of Dunya then do so, for verily you are in the place of actions today and there is no reckoning for our actions in the world, whereas tomorrow you will be in the hereafter where there isn’t (the opportunity to carry out) any action.
Commentary:- There is yet another narration that states, “Take reckoning of yourself before your reckoning is taken (on the day of Qiyaamah).” These are two great Fitnas that Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam has warned us of in this Hadith, carnal desires and desire of long life as a result of which a person becomes negligent of the actions of the Aakhirat.
The method of attaining salvation is understood from other Ahadith which are listed below,
1.Do not miss recitation of Quraan Sharif.
2. Remember death excessively. Think of the manner in which the soul will depart from the body, the solitude of the grave, the plains of reckoning (where one will have to answer for his actions) and think even of the fire of Jahannam.
3. Visit the friends of Allah Ta’ala regularly. The Hadith states, “Everything has a mine, and the mine of Taqwa is the hearts of those that recognised Allah Ta'ala.” It is clear that you will attain Taqwa by remaining in their company, and Allah c has commanded us in the Quraan to be in the company of the truthful ones (in their Taqwa.)
