Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radiallahu Anhu narrates that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said, “Who is it that will take these laws from me and acts upon them or teach them to such a person that will act upon them?” I replied, “I will do so.” Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam held my hand and counted five things
He said, “Protect yourself from those things which Allah Ta’ala has made Haraam, if you abstain from Haraam then you will be counted amongst the greatest of worshippers.”
Be pleased and happy upon those things which Allah Ta’ala has decreed for you, for then you will be counted amongst the wealthy people of the world.”
Be kind to your neighbours for then you will be a perfect believer.
Love for others that which you love for yourself. By doing so, you will be a perfect Muslim.
Abstain from excessive laughter as excessive laughter causes the heart to die.
Commentary:- It is clear from the above mentioned Hadith that the one that is precautious and abstains from those things which Allah Ta’ala has made Haraam is counted amongst the greatest worshippers of Allah Ta’ala. This should serve as a lesson for those that are particular about their Nawaafil and Tasbeehaat yet negligent in regards to displaying photography in their homes, wearing pants above their ankles, and trimming or shaving their beards and speaking lies.
Similarly, this should serve as a lesson for those that speak lies, backbite, cast lustful glances at strange women, bribe others, have pride, etc. and those that do not refrain from Haraam.
The word “Mahaarim” (i.e. impermissible acts) refers to disobeying the laws of Shariat and discarding those actions that are necessary in Shariat. There are those people that are negligent in regards to performing their Qa’daah Salaah and keeping their Qa’daah fasts. Similarly Zakaat and Haj is obligatory upon them but they fail to fulfil their duties yet they seem to be heavily engrossed in Nawafil and recitation of Wazaaif. They spend abundantly on the poor and donate towards the Masajid.
How foolish is it that they are attaching primary importance to Nawafil but negligent of Fardh. Also, we understand from this Hadith that it is permissible for an Alim who doesn’t act upon his knowledge to enjoin good.Reference:
