True Wealth

Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radiallahu Anhu narrates that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said, “Independency (wealth) is not based on the increase of one’s worldly possessions but true wealth is the wealth of the heart. (The heart should be wealthy irrespective of whether one possesses worldly wealth or not).

Wealth of the heart is attained through the blessing of being connected with Allah Ta’ala.

Commentary:- When a servant becomes a close servant of Allah Ta’ala, then the pomp and glory of the world seems useless and worthless in front of the valuable treasure of the closeness of Allah Ta’ala just as the light of the stars seem non-existent in front of the light of the sun.

One poem states, When the king of honour (i.e. Allah Ta’ala) grants the manifestation of his closeness through His majesty, then due to the light of this special connection with Allah Ta’ala the world becomes worthless and his condition speaks,

If the sun is bright, an atom of brightness is worthless in front of the sun

If the seven oceans are present, then what is the reality of a drop of water

A servant gains the closeness of Allah Ta’ala when he chooses to follow Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam. The ability to do so is generally achieved by spending a lengthy durations in the company of the friends of Allah Ta’ala and Mashaaikh

Judge Akbar Ilaahabaadi says,

ان سے ملنے کی  ہے یہی اک راہ      ملنے والوں سے راہ پیدا کر

This is the only way to meet Allah Ta’ala

Establish a relationship with those that are in contact with him

In another poem he says,

نہ کتابوں سے نہ وعظوں سے نہ زر سے پیدا

دین ہوتا ہے بزرکوں کی نظر سے پیدا

Deen is not created from Kitaabs, lectures and wealth

But Deen is created from the gazes of the pious servants of Allah

The author of Mazaahir-e-Haq has written that A person that is content and pleased with the basic necessities of life is a wealthy person. The one that is desirous of more is never at ease and contentment, as it has been said that wealth is with the heart (i.e. if the heart is filled with courage and aspirations then one is wealthy). Piety is with the intelligence of a person not because of long life.

Some have said that the soul of the human being is wealthy on the basis of perfection in knowledge and Amal. The legacy of the Ambiya, Awliya, Sulahaa is knowledge, whilst wealth is the legacy of Qaaroon, Firoun, Haamaan and the transgressors.

رضينا قسمة الحبار فينا لنا علم وللاعداء مال

فان المال يفنى عن قريب وان العلم يبقى لا يزال

We are pleased with the distribution of Allah Ta'ala that we have been blessed with the knowledge of Deen and the enemies have been blessed with wealth.

Soon the wealth will perish whilst the knowledge of Deen will remain for eternity.
