Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam had performed I'tikaaf for the first ten days of Ramdaan, then he performed I'tikaaf for the middle ten days in a turkish tent. He then removed his head from the tent and said, "I had performed I'tikaaf for the first ten days seeking Lailatul Qadr, then i had continued for the middle ten days seeking Lailatul Qadr. I was then informed by an angel that Lailatul Qadr is in the last ten days, therefore those that had performed I'tikaaf with me for the first twenty days should continue in the last ten days."

Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said, "Whoever performs I'tikaaf for one day for the pleasure of Allah Ta'ala, Allah Ta'ala creates three trenches between him and Jahannam which is wider than the distance between the heaven and the earth."
