Give Preference to the Hereafter

Hadrat Abu Musa Ashar Radiallahu Anhu narrates that Rasulullah Salallahu Alaihi Wasallam is reported to have said, “Whoever loves his worldly life (to such an extent that it is more beloved to him than Allah Ta'ala) then he will harm his Aakhirat (hereafter). Whoever loves his hereafter will harm his worldly life. You should give preference to that which is permanent (Aakhirah) over that which is perishable (Dunya).”

Every intelligent person should be concerned of his worldly life as well as his life of the hereafter, contemplate over his duration of stay in this world as well as the hereafter and prepare according to his duration of stay in the world and hereafter. Generally, the love of the world is not abhorred but it is abhorred when the love of the world exceeds the love of the hereafter.

In Mathnawi Sharif the difference between the world and the hereafter has been explained as follows. If water remains beneath a ship then it becomes a means of allowing the ship to sail to its destination. On the other hand, if water enters the ship then it will cause the ship to sink. Therefore, if the world remains beneath the ship of the hereafter then the world will assist one in matters of Deen, but if the love of the world enters the heart (in the ship of the hereafter) then it will destroy one’s Aakhirat
